I can not seem to set any higher compression ratio than 4854 kbps?

    Why?

  2. You're probably using "xvid home profile" . This places limitations on bitrate for compatibility with devices like Divx DVD players

Change it to "unrestricted" or another profile

  3. or is this related to something else since 4854 kbps looks more like a bit rate and not a compression ratio between a compressed and an uncompressed source,...

  4. Yes, 4854 is the max bitrate for the "Xvid Home" (home theater) profile. Change to a higher profile (unlimited?) if you need a higher bitrate.
