I have a DV AVI file that I need cut into smaller sections. Virtualdub says it can't read the audio in sample something so I put it on error mode which outputs an avi file but the sound is messed up bigtime. The guys voice sounds like he is on too much chlorpromazine. I don't know what to do, I have always relied on VD in the past so I don't know of other avi editors that would do the job without reencoding.
What tool should I be using? The audio in the source file sounds fine.
Thanks

You could try solveigmm avi trimmer or avidemux.

If they also fail post the full details from the dv-avi. Use mediainfo, open avi, view->text.
-
Post a mediainfo report about the file to see if you can figure out what's going with the audio.

Pretty much every DV editor allows you to edit without reencoding (as long as you don't add filters) that's one of the beauties of DV. So take your pick from Windows Movie Maker to Avid and everything in between.

Just a wild guess --- maybe the file was muxed incorrectly. Remux it through AVI-Mux GUI, and see if VirtualDub still complains.
-
I am having trouble getting avi-mux GUI to work,I double clicked on the exe and nothing happened I tried run as admin and it didn't work either.
-
On Windows Vista and Seven, AVI-Mux GUI works in the "XP-compatibility mode".
