ok I have always been a big fan of verbatim DVD's for burning but over the last 3 months I'm getting constant failed burnings. Its almost as if Verbatim is now making their discs from toilet water and god knows what else. My software and drivers are up to date but still having issues. What DVDs do any of you recommend for burning?

Are you buying Verbatim with AZO on the label, or are these the "Life Series" discs?

Alternative: Taiyo Yuden, especially their 8x +R discs.

Here's a site in Canada that has them: http://www.duplication.ca/shop/search.php?mode=search&page=1

Staples here in Powell River only carries the AZO ones. It seems since they went AZO is when this issue started happening

I have been using Verbatim AZO media since 2006 with great results. I think something else has gone wrong for you. Maybe your burner is failing.

Virtually all Verbatim media sold in N. America was from one of their AZO product lines until about three years ago. The new Verbatim Life series (packaged in a white wrapper) that replaced it in most brick-and-mortar stores isn't made by Verbatilm and uses a different manufacturing process and different dyes. The Life series is supposed to be more prone to bad burns than the Verbatim AZO product lines.

Either Taiyo Yuden's DVD-R Watershield discs (I can print to those with an ink jet printer) or Verbatim's DataLifePlus discs. I use both DVD+R and DVD-R in DataLifePlus, buying one or the other depending on price and sometimes just my mood. Verbatim's DataLifePlus DVD+/-R discs are AZO.

gvan206 - What country are your Verbatim DVDs made in? If they say anything other than Singapore or Taiwan they may be of somewhat lesser quality. Try burning your remaining Verbatim DVDs at 4x and see if that gives you better burns.

I burn everything at the lowest speed of my burner which is 4x and I didn't check the labeling when I bought the 100 pack so don't know where they are from.

Everyone is right on about the Verbatim life series, I was running low on disks so I bought a 100 pack of the life series at Sam's Club an so far I had 4 bad ones out of 10, That is burning with a LG burner but for some reason I burn't 10 straight with my LG bluray burner with no bad ones.

well unfortunately where I live the city has a habit of buying cheap quality and selling it at expensive prices so the life series isn't available here yet. As soon as they are I will buy them but am done buying in my city.. Not worth the headache.

No, you misunderstood their posts. Do not buy the Life Series Verbatim. They are nothing more than plain CMC Magnetics discs. You might as well be buying Memorex or TDK.

Try the Taiyo Yuden discs I linked.

I took a peek at staples.ca, and was surprised to find that, unlike the Staples in the USA, Staples in Canada appears to be still selling Verbatim's AZO line, as the OP said

I have used Verbatim AZO media made in India, as well as Verbatim AZO media made in Taiwan and Singapore, and all have been good. I suppose switching to Taiyo Yuden 8X could help, but if not, then the OP's burner is probably failing, ...but that is not the end of the world. Replacement burners are mostly inexpensive these days. Sometimes they cost less than a spindle of DVDs.

well unless I use verbatim here now I never had an issue unless I used Memorex so stopped using Memorex and as I said previously until the AZO ones came out I never had an issue. My burner is only 3 years old and everything is updated including the firmware for it.

What Verbatim product were you using before you bought Verbatim AZO? Do you have ImgBurn? It can tell you the media code for the old or new Verbatim media.

Verbatim's AZO product line is not new. I have been using the same Verbatim 16x DVD-R AZO media since 2008. The packaging design changed during that time, but the media code stayed the same. ...and it's the same DVD-R AZO media that Staples sells now in Canada!

We just got verbatim AZO about 4 months ago before it was just verbatim DVD-R and DVR+R's. And yes I do have IMG burn.

Check an old and new Verbatim DVD of the same type (meaning both +R or both -R). Load each disc and open ImgBurn. Look for the manufacturer ID on the Device tab. It is unique for each individual product. It tells you who made it, and which of their products the disc is. If the manufacturer ID is the same on the old and new discs of the same type, they are the same product

It appears I have been using the same Verbatim AZO media since 2006. I checked a Verbatim 16X DVD-R DVD I burned in 2006 and the manufacturer ID is MCC 03RG20 Then, I checked an empty Verbatim 16X DVD-R AZO DVD from a package bought last year and the manufacturer ID is MCC 03RG20 for that one too. Last year's package is the same DVD-R media that Staples currently sells in Canada.

Is the same mistake as with those who burn everything at fastest speeds.....

Best burn speed is a 1/2 speed of the rating.
For 16x media, the max available, than means 12x.

Too slower is a bad as too fast.
