  1. I used Arcsoft TotalMedia to create a DVD of a TV show I recorded with a capture card. However, the DVD will only play on the computer I made it on; not any other computer or DVD player. On the other computer it shows up as blank (which seems pretty weird) and there's a playback error when I try to use it on a DVD player. I'll attach a picture of the contents of the DVD inside the VIDEO_TS folder (the only one). They all seem to be the right format, too, which adds to the problem.

  2. This sounds simply like an incompatibility problem with the blank disc used & other players.
Other players don't "like" the brand, you possibly burned the disc at too fast a speed or both.

Try a different brand like Verbatim, and burn at half the rated disc speed.

I use Verbatim exclusively now, and have never had a playback problem or incompatibility problem at all.

  3. I burned it at 8x, so would that really be too fast?

  4. In fact, that IS half the rated disc speed, so that must not be the problem. I'm using Memorex discs and I thought they were a pretty reputable brand.

Depending on the "crappiness" of the chosen media, yes it might be too fast.

Depends also on the DVD drive you have, the LGs in general let you record at 4X, whereas some LiteOns don't let you record below 6X

No, Memorex is usually very poor media. Use Verbatim Datalife or Taiyo Yuden.

Maybe you didn't burn it correctly. Like, for example, if it burned it with an open session or something. (That could account for not seeing on another PC).What app did you use to burn it with? Arcsoft TM? If so, I would suggest ImgBurn. Put the VIDEO_TS folder's files onto your HDD and have ImgBurn build a new disc using that folder as your source. Should work great at that point.

P.S. And as has already been mentioned, you GOOD media (like the Verbatim or TY - my fave).

    What is vts_01_1.vob ?

Seems too small to be a title in its own right and there is no vts_01_0.vob !!!!

  9. Oh haha that's an intro video before the disc menu. I'll try the ImgBurn and if that doesn't work I'll get better discs and try again.

BTW What error are you seeing when you try to play the disk in a standard dvd-player ?

And what program(s) are you testing the playback on your PC ?

You do not say in your profile where you are from but is there any possiblity that you created a PAL dvd for a NTSC machine ?
