I recommend the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition PLUS.
This is the latest HD PVR from Hauppauge and runs perfectly.

I have used the HD PVR range for well over a year now and have been very impressed with the stability of the capture card and the quality support received by Hauppauge when I have ran into issues.
The HD PVR 2 provides 1080p video recording via HDMI, the GE+ (Gaming Edition Plus) has SPDIF on the back (which is used for 5.1 surround sound).

With the new software they have released ( www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/capture ) you can stream to Twitch TV, UStream and soon to be able to stream to YouTube also. This program handles very nicely with usage and is constantly being updated with new and impressive features.

  4. The Hauppauge is better in every way... except image quality. The Elgato at its max 30 Mb/s delivers better image quality than the Hauppauge at its max ~15 Mb/s. It retains more small, low contrast detail.

This is a question all gamers ask because if you're spending money you always want the best device, quality and value for money. I'm been making videos and recording gameplay for over 2 years now. I spent many times asking what's the best device what should I get after many hours or searching I found the HD PVR 2 was by far the better device why you ask ? well it's simply not only is Hauppauge the longest lasting capture card company but they know what they're doing when it comes to making something gamer want. The device is created by gamers and used by all the top people you see posting daily gameplay videos.

The HD PVR 2 only require low PC specs this means if you've not got the top quality pc/laptop you don't have to worry at all as for the elgato well it requires a minimum of 4gb ram which is something gamers don't generally want. I'm not sure if you're a MAC user (HOPE YOU'RE NOT) but The Hauppauge HD PVR 2 is the only device Mac friendly it's got a working programme to record, edit and much more.

The Hauppauge capture which is the programme you use to record your gameplay is always updated with the latest and greatest stuff people like to see as a gamer. It records in 720p and even 1080p but that all depends up to you. Hauppauge also has a great support team what respond within 6 hours of your email mon-fri which is simply amazing nothing worse than waiting to fix your problems.

Check out there twitter and facebook they always have contest, giveaway and other cool stuff for there fans and gamers. If you have any other questions about the HD PVR 2 don't be afraid to leave a reply I'd gladly give you more advice when needed.

No matter how one interprets this statement, it is wrong.

The Hauppauge HD-PVR 2 is not the only Hauppauge product that works with a Mac. The hardware for the original HD-PVR 1212 and its Gaming Edition are OSX-compatible too, but as is the case for Happauge's HD-PVR 2, third-party software (HDPVRCapture for the Mac or Capture4Me) is needed to use them with a Mac.

Elgato's Game Capture HD has better Mac support. Elgato products are mainly intended for Macs, although some of their hardware is Windows compatible too. The Elgato Game Capture HD is somewhat unusual for them because both its hardware and its Game capture software software are compatible with both OSX and Windows. However, the Elgato Game Capture HD hardware also works with Elgato's well-known EyeTV PVR software, which is for OSX only. It won't work with Windows Media Center, and I have not heard that any other Windows PVR software can work with it.
