This video is only playable via using VLC media player. I cant play it via WMP or Sony Vegas but there are only background sounds and via the After Effects I cannot play it at all.

Because AE uses quicktime to decode anything in MOV (same with vegas, and WMP) . So you would require the MPEG2 decoder component for quicktime (not free)

This is an HDV in MOV stream, AE can decode it natively if it was in a transport stream (ts, m2t) or program stream (mpeg). You could re-wrap it with something like ffmpeg or ffmbc and it should import

it's NOT hdv. that pcm audio is not allowed in hdv. wrong size and it says something about a "custom matrix". it's some sort of made up video format, not sure anything would open it. Last edited by aedipuss; 1st Jul 2013 at 19:24. --

Yes you're right, the specs are not exactly HDV, but it's MPEG2 video, and it should open in after effects when rewrapped. Since VLC can open and play it, it should work

Note the dimensions are misread by mediainfo often for HDV/QT

	it shouldn't be in a mov/mp4 container. he's on a pc not mac. it should be a .m2t, i'm guessing it's a downloaded pos video file. --

Maybe he got some footage from a mac or FCP editor. No, it's not ideal for PC users...

FCP often exports like this, and mediainfo often reads it incorrectly (look at the dimensions and matrix)

These are HDV files wrapped into a mov container by fcp. (I think that's been established earlier in the thread.)

They will open in Premiere Pro CC (and I'm betting CS6 -- but can't confirm.) They will also open in Avid Media Composer, but only via AMA link. Nothing else I've thrown at it so far works (I have some similar files from a year or so ago.)Last edited by smrpix; 1st Jul 2013 at 21:13.
