  1. I it possible (for archival purposes) to compress a video to a very small file size in an unplayable format?

    That is, to play the video, it would have o be extracted first.

  3. The final step of most high compression video formats is very similar to the entropy encoding used in archiving software like WinZip, WinRAR, etc. So video files usually don't compress with archiving programs.
