So, to save a few bucks, I recently got a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8 when my Macbook started dying.
I'm in the process of editing some video for a school I work at, and their camera seems to have recorded it as MOV files with the iCOD codec.
A little research seems to say PCs probably can't read that...
My Mac is still running, and plays the files fine, but it isn't fit to do the edit, and doesn't have the software I need for it anyway.
I tried a bunch of converters, none seem to be able to read the files. I'm not too concerned about a little loss of quality, this is a pretty casual project, as long as I can edit these files on Premiere on my PC.
The only thing I've tried which works is using Quicktime on my Mac to resave the files as m4v. it worked on a tiny clip of a few seconds, but it tells me it will take several hours to convert a minute of footage using this method.
Any suggestions on converters I might use to access this, or even better, if there's some way to get that codec accepted on my PC?
Thank you so much for any suggestions.

iCOD is the Apple Internediate Codec which is locked out on PCs. You can try the usual suspects -- MpegStreamClip and ffmpeg -- but it's very likely not to work.
A conversion to DNxHD or ProRes on the mac may go faster than m4v, though you're likely to get larger file sizes. iCOD sometimes uses weird raster sizes which will make DNxHD problematic as well.
Premiere CS6 handles ProRes fine. I can't speak for earlier versions. -
Hey thanks smrpix!
This seems to be working! You saved my bacon!
