    Hi,

I want to record from my netgear neotv max which is hooked up to my roxio game capture hd pro. Since it doesn't work because i guess signal protected-hdcp, will a hdmi switch or spltter allow for the signal to pass so i get a unprotected signal to my roxio device. Here are two i am looking at right now.

    Hdmi switch-MIS-SWHK0401

    hdmi splitter-lu604m

    http://www.centralcomputers.com/commerce/catalog/product.jsp?product_id=81836&czuid=1371506031953

By the way when a hdmi splitter has hdcp passthrough, does that mean it strips hdcp protection or not or will signal pass through unprotected?

Also, if i just use an hdmi coupler to join hdmi cables, you think that would work for what i am trying to do? Thanks for all great replies.

oh yeah, if any of those don't work, can anybody from these short lists-determine if it all which will work for my situation?

    http://www.centralcomputers.com/

search for hdmi splitter and hdmi switch

looking for the lowest priced one

    Thanks again!

A switch is a dumb device. It just routes wires from an input to an output. The receiving device and the sending device negotiate HDCP.

A splitter negotiates HDCP with the source, then negotiates HDCP with each output device. It is not supposed to "strip" HDCP. That said, there are some non-compliant HDMI splitters that do strip HDCP -- ie they don't apply HDCP to the outputs. But you have to search for them. There's a big thread here about HDCP strippers.

I don't know about the particular devices you linked to. But if you find devices that look identical (aside from the silk screening) to those that are confirmed to strip HDCP you will be more likely to get what you want.

Can you search at that same site and see if any of those match for hdmi splitter?

  4. This is one of the confirmed HDMI strippers:

    www.amazon.com/CVID-BG-550-portable-Powered-Splitter/dp/B0089DVCT8/

The one in your link doesn't look exactly like that.

  6. The HDMI to composite converters will only give you standard definition output.

  8. The page you linked to had only a cable and 2 HDMI/composite converters. I didn't see anything on their HDMI switch/splitter page that looked exactly like the 1x4 splitter (or its 1x2 sibling) at Amazon.

If a product has hdcp passthrough , would that bypass hdcp protection? Also what would a hdmi repeater do?

It will not remove HDCP, just boost signal levels.

So I'm thinking of buying the one here

Yes. I have that model and have verified it removes HDCP.

  14. If audio is in the HDMI signal it gets passed through along with the video.
