I would like to use Mpeg2cut2 to edit some .ts files from my Humax PVR
However, when I load a file it only displays the first (?) frame or a black screen. The clock runs when I click play or fast forward etc, but there is neither video nor the audio.
Any ideas why it behaves like this?

Do these .ts files play in anything?

Yes, VLC Media Player and even Windows Media Player. ProjectX can demultiplex them into their component parts. and so on.

Can't ProjectX "fix" them for you and give you workable MPEG files?

I was hoping to find something that would go from .ts to burn DVD in fewer steps (quicker).
Currently it's edit and demux with ProjectX then build DVD image with IfoEdit then burn DVD with, say, ImgBurn

Are you sure you actually have mpeg2 in the .ts container ?

You can check the codecs with mediainfo. Post a text report.

You could also try loading the video into avidemux and cut with that.

Is there a typo in you above reply ? You can not build a dvd image with ifoedit wel not from a raw mgeg.

If you want quicker, don't edit in ProjectX and don't demux either......and you only use ProjectX if your original ts files from the box don't open in anything (like Avidemux). ProjectX fixes broken ts files.....it's not mandatory for all ts files from every box.

Yes, mediainfo finds 4 files in each .ts. One mpeg2, Two audio and one text.
ProjectX demuxes the .ts file into a .mv2 file, a .mp2, a.pts and a log.txt which Ifoedit can convert into VOB files for DVD burning.

When I had a capture card that recorded MPEG-TS files, I always converted it to MPG before editing with Mpg2Cut2, using ffmpeg_MPGMUX.

  11. I like DB83 advice, that is see if you can process it with avidemux.
Actually avidemux can edit out stuff also...just be sure to cut on "I" frames.
You can use the "copy" audio and video provided they are dvd compliant.

What I do for a ota mts mpeg variable output is clip a little off start and end of capture....I don't know if it helps but
I call myself making the video and audio stream the same length...hopefully to keep it in sync later on.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I open a 1080i TV capture transport stream in AviDemux, set cut-points to trim before and after the clip, select Copy Audio and Video streams, and save as MPEG. Play clip in MPC-HC, and the A/V sync is WAAAAAAAY off, every time.

Please enlighten me? I have never found a free video editor that can handle HD transport streams. The only method that consistently works for me is to remux to MPG using ffmpeg_MPGMUX, and edit with Mpg2Cut2. The only freeware editor that even comes close to editing these files for me is TSRemux.

  15. Likely you are not cutting on I frames only.
Make sure you cut only on I frames.

You might do what I suggested above also, trim a little off start of file, make usual edit cuts, trim a little off end of file.

This works on my mts mpeg variable 1080i, I was outputting to ts, copy audio and video streams.

Yes, I know you have to cut at the start of a GOP, which is the double-arrow button in AviDemux. I use AviDemux for editing MKVs, but it never worked for any HD MPEG-TS that I tried. I have the same problem with HD MPEG-PS, which is why I edit with Mpg2Cut2.

  17. I dunno then, pehaps avidemux as well as the other progs. are holding a grudge against you.
Have you done anything to avidemux that would piss it off?
