  1. I have connected RCA cables to my SONY Bravia's red and white "Audio Out" ports on the back of the SONY and plugged them into my "Audio In" ports of my stereo amplifier.

Everything sounds great, but I'm not able to Mute or otherwise adjust the volume using my remote. It will say "Mute" on my TV screen but the sound keeps playing. Same with the Volume control. I can see the Volume adjustment bar on my TV but the sound through my speakers remains constant, even when I have the Volume all the way down to -0-.

My Speaker Settings are on "Audio System". When I switch to "TV Speakers" the Mute and Volume buttons work on the sound coming out of the TV but have no effect on the sound running through the amplifier.

BTW, I have another SONY Bravia set up the same way and I can Mute the sound I'm playing through my Audio System.

What the heck is going on here?

    Thanks!

On my Sony Bravia there are various sound settings when you have other equipment connected to the tv.

    1. Dual Sound - set that as 'Stereo', "A" or "B"
    2. Volume Offset - sets an independent volume level to each equipment

This info comes from the on-screen manual.

I can not test this as I do not use external speakers.

The monitor-out volume usually isn't controlled by the TV, it's standard line level. You control the volume on your amplifier. If you have a headphone output on the TV you might be able to use that instead. That should give you volume control on the TV's remote. You may need a signal attenuator though. Some remotes allow you to reprogram the volume buttons to control another device. Look for that.

Can't tell you why or how, but my samsung tv remote will change the volume of my yamaha av reciever. They are connected by an hdmi cable. Maybe your stereo is just too old.

I have a "Volume Offset" setting that I can adjust. It's currently set at -0-, but adjusting it up or down doesn't have any effect on my outside speaker volume.

The crazy thing is the Mute button actually did mute my outside speakers just a couple days ago, then mysteriously stopped working. Some setting in my Bravia TV must have gotten changed and I'll be damned if I can find what it is. I've hit every "Reset" setting I can find all to no avail.

    Drats!!

Well, the remote controls the volume-out going to my amplifier on my upstairs Bravia, and it used to control the volume-out on my downstairs Bravia, but suddenly and mysteriously stopped doing that. Not a biggie, but it just bugs me that nobody can figure out what happened and how to correct it.
