VirtualDub. Just open the vAVI file, put the audio in Full Processing mode, increase the volume, select an audio codec, Save as AVI.

Yes, adjust the volume there. Select an audio codec with Audio -> Compression... then configure it. Also select Video -> Direct Stream Copy to be sure the video isn't reencoded.

If the audio is MP3, you can use VirtualDubMod to demux/extract it, open it with a program such as MP3DirectCut or MP3Gain, normalise it losslessly (or increase the volume manually), then replace the existing audio stream with the new version.
Or there's AVIGain if you've got lots of AVIs to fix. -

I suspect you didn't select a compression codec for the audio.
yes i did select the audio it was AC3 in the compression -
This is the original video and as you can see its AC3 codec
I also selected AC3 in the audio in 3rd snap, but as you can see in the 2nd snap it says PCM so cant see what happened there also file is now much biggerLast edited by natty; 14th Jun 2013 at 04:57. Reason: added another snapshot

The original video had 192 kbps AC3 audio. The file you created has uncompressed audio. That would be <No compression (PCM)> in that dialog. That's why your file grew so big. There are no parameters to choose from in the right pane of the dialog. That may mean the AC3 encoder isn't working (it may be a decoder only). Try MPEG Layer-3, MP3, instead. You should get a list of profiles to select from in the right pane:
