I am new to this and I just tried to post a video to YouTube that was .98 GB. It took 4 hours. Please recommend a program that is easy to use and will change the video to a format that will upload faster without sacrificing quality. Thank you in advance.

Start with handbrake and/or winff. Match your output to You Tube's recommended settings (available on their site).
If you're not satisfied with the results, post back here with specific information about your file -- codec, format, raster size, audio format and we'll see what we can do.

Nothing was said about codec(s) chosen, bitrate chosen, or even the length of the clip. How are we supposed to guess with no info?

I was thinking basically the same thing, but regardless of what bitrate, length, etc. which really has nothing to do with uploading a file, any 1gb file is going to take a long time to upload to Youtube!!
The best you could do is already have it converted to a youtube friendly format so that YT does not convert it to their standards, but still, a 1gb file is going to take quite a while to upload there.
Even when I upload files 500mb to 700mb it takes a good 2 hours.
I don't know if YouTube limits their upload speed or not ? -
