  1. I have a series of .mpg files (Video encoded MPEG2/Audio LPCM) that appear to have lost the audio codec information in the file properties. These play fine in WMP and VLC.

I was attempting to reencode them using Nero to MP4/AAC. The reencoding was successful but everytime I tried to play them, the video played but the audio did not. I've narrowed it down to Nero not recognizing the audio codec (does recognize the video codec) and the result is a video encoded file without audio. Checking the properties of the files in windows, I can see video codec information but no audio codec information. I can only assume this is what Nero checks to determine format.

How do I fix these .mpg files so I can successfully recode them? Help desperately needed as the wife will remove a very important organ should I not get this resolved.

    Thanks.

HandBrake also has problems with PCM/LPCM audio.
If you are trying to convert to some sort of device(like an iPhone or iPod Touch, etc etc)....try WinFF.
OR....try HandBrake....maybe I have the non-PCM compatibility of these two backwards.

First of all, use MediaInfo for checking those MPG files.

    Secondly, drop Nero.

Third, demux the audio with TSMuxer, mpeg_demux (part of the AC3Filter Tools), ffmpeg, whatever,
then convert to AAC through qaac or fhgaacenc.
