And another question. Does anyone have experience with 2 bay laptops? I want to get a SSD for the system and use another bay for renders. Does the second bay have a separate controller? Better off I would sell my laptop, but who will buy it?
In the system I'm using now, I once used a 120GB Vertex2 OCZ as system drive. Fast boots and program loads and all that but I always had to watch out for temp files and other stuff to prevent it from being filled up, etc. I just went back to using a RAID1 volume conventional HDD setup. Cheap, cheerful, still fast. Believe me you will need all space you can get, system drive or otherwise. The fast aspect of SSD was just bulldozed by a myriad other things, space was the least of it. Probably for another thread to discuss?

Most current mid to hi-performance laptops are, strictly speaking, 2-bay, separately controlled; the HDD and optical drive each have their own SATA controllers. But since the optical drive is fixed, and it may have its own proprietary SATA connector, you just can't remove it. There may be laptops where that is possible; just haven't come across it (like in the days of PATA, where a 2nd HDD can be installed in a module to be slid in place of the optical drive). But this limitation has been overcome by the eSATA port, where you can now attach the separately-controlled HDD of your choice. It may be inconvenient having to lug more stuff around, but that's that.

Your current laptop will likely be bought by sheeple who are not likely to do such awesome things like NLE.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

Thanks for the answer, I thought this thread is already dead!
But yes, it's a discussion for another thread. I checked though, theres' no problem in installing a 2nd drive into optical drive bay. I also have another bay for a hard drive, so theoretically I could install 3 hard drives in one laptop! I will have to see into that, will it be beneficial for NLE or not and can set up Raid 0 on 2 of the drives. That would make a laptop really fast!
