I am new to this whole ripping DVD scene and hope to get some pointers to help me become even better at it and to have better quality video's. I rip my dvd's to play on my Google Nexus 7 and on the computer. I would like to learn more about transcoding, clipping, and bitrates. Maybe even the best software to use for Linux systems.

    Thanks

I use anydvd for ripping and handbrake or vidcoder to shrink/transcode/convert dvds/video_ts folders to mp4/mkv.

And I changed your thread title.

Thanks for the program recommedations however they are for windows and I am completely Windowless. I've been using dvd::rip and transcoding with xvid4 in an avi container. The movies I rip come out fairly clean I have very little "blocking" but do get some. I have not clipped the video's and I transcode them at 2500 bits and ac3

You will never have better quality than the original source(DVD). Even though you are probably not talking about "improving on the original quality"....just need to set the record straight.
Your little xvid re-encodes will never be better than the DVD.
