I've been using Vegas for a while but it seems with each version comes more problems (just go to the Vegas forum) So I started thinking, why not look for another NLE! A quick searched turned up these programs (none of which I've heard of) which all have a feature for multicamera editing. Any thoughts on them? Other suggestions? Before I decided on Vegas years ago, I tried Premiere but don't remember it being very user friendly (although I did like Encore, their DVD authoring program)

    Lightworks NLE - http://www.lwks.com/

Magix Movie Edit Pro - http://www.magix.com/us/movie-edit-pro/plus/

    Mediachance Edit Studio 6 - http://www.mediachance.com/video/index.html

    Thanks!

  2. All the majors-- Avid, Premiere, Vegas. Premiere is MUCH improved.

The Vegas Forum is full of cranky old farts from yesteryear. They want everything spoonfed, and anything new or different upsets their world. Most of them are wedding videographers and have no clue about anything else.

They're like Blacksmiths who laughed at cars. Anybody that has a fresh idea quickly gets drowned out and lambasted. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater, Vegas is a solid NLE.

    Hahaha

I'd add to that list: Edius, and if you're on a Mac, FCP/FCE/FCX.

Vegas WAS a solid NLE. Older versions of Vegas worked great. But it seems with each new version comes more crashes and lockups.

For the person who said Premiere has been much improved. What version would you say that improvement came on? The last time I looked at Premiere was probably in 2006 or so, perhaps it's time for another look!

Has anyone used Lightworks or the one by Magix?

  7. Premiere probably hit its stride at CS5. It's at CS6 now and 7 is due fairly soon. (It was CS3 in 2006, ok but not wonderful)

Lightworks is in the odd position of being supposedly free, but you have to pay for a lot of codecs to make it really functional. Folks who use the controller say it flies. My personal experience is that it seems powerful, but with Avid, Premiere and Vegas Lite on my system I don't need it.

Does Premiere CS6 crash and lock up as often as Vegas 12?

Usually NLE's crash and lock up due to a loose nut between the chair and keyboard.

or flakey computers. vegas is much less likely to crash and burn now then when i started using it at version 6. you can cross editstudio off the list unless all you do is work in DVavi and the app hasn't been updated in what 6 years?

In all seriousness, the other thing that's changed over the last five or six years (and Aedipuss and Budwzr have touched on it) is a tremendous proliferation of video formats that these systems are required to deal with. They are extremely complex software that are required to run on an almost infinite variations of system specs. Add to this an explosion of new users with varying degrees of experience. It's actually very impressive these things work as well as they do.

Maybe you should join the Vegas Forums and "help those morons" at Sony Creative Software get their act together.

Ok, so I guess stick to Vegas, or try Premiere maybe. Every time I do anything in Vegas anymore, I save after every little edit for fear of it crashing. My computer is perfectly fine for running it, nothing to do with the computer.

Try turning off all unnecessary programs and services when you are editing. Disconnect from the web, turn off your antivirus, no disk indexing. See if it makes a difference. Keep your system as clean and simple as possible. Saving frequently isn't a bad habit.
