    Hello again.
I am looking for software, besides windows movie maker, that will allow me to edit my captured avi video and then save the final edited video to DV-AVI and then author in AVStoDVD.
The latest version of WMM (version 7) has an easier and cleaner interface but they removed the option to save to DV-AVI and version 6 allows it but the interface is terrible and less customizable.
Lightworks isn't able to run on my computer.
    Any other economic software suggestions?
Previously mentioned above were Vegas studio and video studio pro and magix. Can these do the trick?

  2. They can. Adobe Premiere Elements is the other main player in the "affordable" range. WMM has always had the ability to output to DV-AVI but you had to dig for it a little. I'm not familiar with the current version, but I'd be very surprised if it's truly not an option.

  3. If you're looking for another free option since Lightworks doesn't work for you, maybe take a look at Shotcut. It uses FFmpeg so it should be able to save to DV.

  4. Hmm, this fellow seems to know what he's talking about. Can't vouch for him personally.

  5. Mаgix VideoEasy is pretty good and simple...
    There is also Movavi

  6. What sort of editing? If it's just basic cutting, VirtualDub should easily do it. Cut the sections you don't want etc, and resave the output as a new AVI. Use DirectStreamCopy for the video and audio while saving if you don't want to re-encode anything.

I have to put in subtitles that need the durations customized. I have to insert small 20-40 second audio tracks and a couple photos for the title and credits. I am just very interested in keeping the output file as losslessly as possible, which is why I choose DV-AVI. Also, I have to clip the "watery" edges of my source VHS capture. The very next step after I edit is to go to Windows DVD Maker or AVStoDVD. I am leaning towards AVS for the final authoring/burn.

Might I suggest TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5? It allows for subtitles (imported or created in the program itself), and you can author the video to DVD as well.
