Hi folks...been to this site MANY times over the years as ive been an encoder and uploader various places..
Im no expert though, and its been a long time..
I have dlna running wirelessly throughout my house,to my samsung tv's via Serviio.
Seems most video files i get seem to be 720p or 1080 mkv,and most have the ability to fast forward or rewind etc etc while streaming...
I dont reencode much anymore, but i just reencoded star wars 4 5 and 6 and they wont ff or rw...BEFORE i transode them ff works. But after? no..
Im just using a simple program ,Bigasoft total video converter...
So how would i go about making it so that it would FF? Put in chapters or something??? ive never needed to do this... Thanks guys! i love this place, glad to be a new member!

Do your conversions properly and you will be able to FF. Since you give no details on the files you created (containers, codecs) that's all the advice I can give.

container i did list above its mkv
i cant get ff no matter what audio codec i use...aac ac3 mp3 lame
sounds like noone feels like answering this one,,
let me put this in simpler terms....
how would one go about making a video,ANY video, capable of FF??? -
Why did you list audio codecs only? We need video codecs too - h264? Divx? what?
Start over with your source and do it again.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
No you didn't. You said you get sources that are MKV. You never said what container you converted to.
And what video codec?
It can't be answered without your cooperation.
Use decent software and use it correctly.
I don't know anything about Total Video Converter so I can't help you with that. But in general, encoders include a keyframe index that media players use to fast forward or rewind. The inclusion of that index is usually automatic. It is often added to the end of the video when encoding is finished. Without that index many players will not fast forward or rewind. One possible explanation for your problem is the software crashed before adding the index. Another common problem with files transferred over the internet is that the end of the file is missing.
