The best quality is what they are now.
DivX and WMV are NOT a good choice if quality is what you are looking for.

  3. Each file is 3gb and there are nearly 100 *36 gb. I dont want this way.
all of them totaly 3-5 gb is enough. They are broadcast movies from TV.

You mean all 100 files reduced to 3-5 G in total? From about 3600 G?

Apparently you really "don't need BEST quality".

I don't know if you need them to work on some device with limited codec support, but otherwise do as suggested and forget divx and wmv. h.264 is the best codec but the settings are more complex. And do read jagabo's link.

He means he has 100 files of 3 GB size each. The 36 is clearly a typo.

The files have massive bit rates for SD video (28800 Kbps video, PCM audio) so they should actually compress quite nicely to DivX.

I'd advise going with DivX over WMV as DivX has better support on various devices. Come on guys, both DivX and WMV are both quite capable of providing excellent quality given the right encoding parameters. Geez, you do nobody any favors by acting like this is impossible when it is not. For example, he could try 4000 Kbps video and 256 CBR MP3 audio. At 4000 Kbps, the video should be equivalent to very high bit rate DVD video.

He said he's looking for 100:1 compression:

all of them totaly 3-5 gb is enough.
That would be more like 280 kbps, not 4000 kbps.

Plus he's probably going to have to deal with interlace issues.
