    Hi,

I am trying to transfer my Hi8 tapes to PC bur my A1 Hi 8 Stereo camera is in for repairs hopefully I can continue to use it for the transfers as his was the cam they were recorded with.

I hired a Sony Hi8 player for $90 a day but too exy for all my tapes.

I eventually bought a Samsung VP-L750 Hi8 PAL cam which remarkably was still unwrapped in a new box. Brand New !!

It does play my Hi8 tapes and I am running them through my Panasonic 3CCD to the PC and it is capturing very nicely.

As it was before digital, there is only an s-video port and an analog video(yellow) audio(white) RCA out.

Now that's is okay as well. but the problem is I recorded my tapes in Hi8 stereo.

I guess I am stuck with only a combined sound coming out as mono.

May mean I have to sell it when I find a Stereo Hi8. Hard as Hen's teeth to find.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    oz

I don't think I have ever seen a Hi8 mono camcorder - I learned something new today. Yes, you need a stereo model - or a stereo Hi8 deck may be rented.

Please take a picture of the ports and show it here. Are you sure there is no 1/8" audio out jack? Just curious. First case I heard of a mono Hi8 camcorder.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

I still have an older Hitachi Hi-8. On board the camera only offers rca video and a single mono output-- However the camera has a plug in (that looks more like a square version of a svhs connection). Using that wire I could then get svhs as well as the proper stereo out since that is what the camera recorded in. Basically it was Hitachi's shit way of getting you to shell out more money to get the proper output you want via their own proprietary wire connection

it might be possible a similar issue as this is also part of the original poster's problem with the camera

Use Audacity, and duplicate into stereo.

Professional music is captured in mono. Stereo is an added effect.
