Best video format and codec for Smartphone Streaming?

Hi Guys
I'm after some advice and knowledge please. I run a small multimedia business from home converting old media types to digital. e.g.: VHS to DVD, Vinyl to MP3 etc.. just to name a few. Anyway I am currently working on a project that will result in developing a phone app for iphone, android and windows phones... all smartphone types that will allow users to download and stream video directly from the app. I know that the H.264 codec is the best codec option for video streaming but is there any possible video format.. mp4, etc that will play on all phone types not just the iphone for example? I hope this makes sense. The goal is to allow users of the app to stream video fast and at a great quality regardless of their phone platform. I'd appreciate any replies.

Also, I work on an imac (late 2012) and use Macx Video Converter.. If anyone has any other software suggests id be happy to hear them

mp4 with h264 and aac will work on both ios and android. Just don't use too high h264 level(4.1 or lower) and not hd resolutions and it will work on most devices.

You can also make the mp4 streaming in web browsers with html5 video, see http://www.longtailvideo.com/html5/ .

ok cool. thanks. So, if I just use MP4 and h264 it will work on both platforms? Sorry for sounds so "clueless" Im still learning alot about video conversion and formats. also to be able to stream in web browsers all i have to do is install the jw player?
