These files are standard def mpeg2 file wrapped in a proprietary lxf (Leitch) wrapper. This is the native format used and stored in Harris Nexio servers.

    a) Renaming the extension to a mainstream format does nothing.
    b) Premiere Pro CS 5.5 or 6 is challenged.

I acquire shows for re-broadcast on local cable access tv.

This is the only format the supplier offers me for free.

How can I process/convert or otherwise use these files and retain quality?

This format is totally foreign to my experience.

    Thank you

  2. Can you post a sample clip ?

    What kind of audio ?

You might be able to re-wrap them into mpeg2 program stream (.mpg or .mpeg) with ffmpeg

But if it's proprietary - you might be out of luck

    Update:

Supplier claims they look great on the server and will suffer substantially if changed.

Even stated it will/may look worse than dvd.

Of course I hope you experts can prove my source wrong.

I only had access to a single episode briefly by ftp server.

That file was made no longer available.

I have requested it again as my original download is corrupted from trying to make it work.

Awaiting a response so I have it again.

    Sorry !

  5. If it's the same thing , support was added in the ffmpeg changelog last year for LXF

Demuxer for Leitch/Harris' VR native stream format (LXF)
Of course re-wrapping into a program stream or transport stream won't change the quality
