    hi all

I have a dvd that I own which is an instructional dvd. It contains a lecture and other portions. I have extracted the entire contents of the disk onto my computer to try and make it into 1 movie file. I am having a small issue though. I ahve gone through every single VOB file on the Video TS folder, and all of the dvd content doesn't seem to be there, yet when you play the DVD in a computer or DVD player, the lecutre and extra portions go for well over 2 hours.

I am thinking there is something encoding wise that is stopping me from ripping the entire disk off? or something hidden? has anyone ever come across this before?

    thanks in advance.

Have you tried vob2mpg? Select the video_ts folder and try make a mpg from it.

  3. Yes, I have come across this...sometimes it means there is some protection mechanism at work. Typically, 'Bad sector' protection can 'hide' data. Other times the disc may have been badly recorded and just contain an error. DVD players can be very forgiving of these errors and continue to play normally. Computers are not so forgiving and a copy procedure will fail every time.

.VOB files are just containers for the video. There is no reason to believe that the video inside them is one continuous movie. As Baldrick suggests, VOB2MPG will restructure everything for you and output a contiguous mpeg file if there isn't any protection present.

You don't say how you are ripping the disc. Are you using DVDFab HD Decrypter or similar bypass software, or are you just copying from the disc to the computer? They will cope with most protection methods and some errors. Alternatively, you could try using BDlot DVD ISO Master to backup to an ISO file and open with DVD Shrink or convert with Video to Video Converter.

Your lack of provided information about this DVD is almost unprecedented.
My guess is that since this is an instructional DVD, it has been cheaply made(maybe even a burned DVD) and authored by an idiot. It probably is divided into separate titles and it is throwing off an already mediocre ripper (mactheripper) in the first place.
