  1. I have a disk with a Panasonic AV Viewer on it and a .AV file.
The file is from a car cam. I need to convert the file to make it more universally playable.
The file does play in the Panasonic viewer but not in anything else.

    Mediainfo gives me this:

    General
    Complete name : D:\K4218.AV
    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
    File size : 660 MiB

    Video
    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
    Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5
    Format settings, BVOP : Yes
    Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
    Width : 720 pixels
    Height : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 4:3
    Standard : NTSC
    Color space : YUV
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Compression mode : Lossy

Some Googling seems to indicate it's a Final Draft format but no info on conversion.

    Any thoughts?

I think a simple file extension rename from *.av to *.mp4 should do the trick. Whatever you'd like to do, try that first.

  3. Thanks Scott, I just gave that a try. Still can't play it.
However Xmedia Recode will now accept it and gives me a very poor highly pixilated and blocky preview. I'll play around wit other converters.
Potplayer gives me this when I open up the error:

    The file's contents.

  4. Still no joy. I can view and convert it using many of the FFmpeg GUI encoders but the results have large blocks, plays too fast and looks practically scrambled. It also loses all audio.
Found out it's from a Police cam if that helps.

    Ready to give it up.
