okay its been a very long time since i've posted. i've had a toshiba 47inch led 3d tv for about 16 months now. love it to death. but over the last few weeks the remote (ct-90367) has not been working at 100%. most of the time the input button, and all other buttons, will not work all at the same time. and then sometimes all buttons will work.
ive changed the batteries so i know its not that. the input button is my livelihood as i cannot switch between my cable tv and my pc and what not..
anyways i really hope its not a tv sensor bar issue and that its just the matter of replacing the remote control itself..
again, its not just the input button that wont work, its all buttons that wont work about 80% of the time! very strange it seems...
thanks for reading and please help if you can!!

There could be a loose contact with the batteries.
What I do when a remote fails to respond as I would expect it to is rotate the battery in its holder. That often does the trick for me and then if it does not I then change the battery. -

No a programmable remote might need to read but a universal remote comes with the codes built in.
You can also try contact cleaner or a conductive pad restore kit.

Most universal remotes are preprogrammed with 1000's of codes, and come with a little booklet to look up your product and enter a code.
Only really expensive ones have the included function of "learning" from an existing remote, I have a couple of them.
But I also have done that little trick of spinning the batts, but the OP said he replaced the batts with new ones so ?? -
Even many <$20 universal remotes now have the ability to learn from other remotes. The biggest problem with universal remotes is that they often don't have one or two buttons that you want. So it's nice to have the learning feature.
A good site for reviews of remote controls: http://www.remotecentral.com/ -
I've never seen one that learned from another remote that cheap, but I have not looked lately either so I don't doubt it, the way prices drop as tech increases.
But yeah, the universal remotes that lack buttons or functions you need does suck big time!!
My daughter has a 27" LCD she bought used, no remote, and there are things you can't do without it.
But with a learning remote it would be easy to remedy as long as you had the original remote. -

Yep, i saw some others on that page even cheaper!!
LOL!!
I did say I don't doubt it as i have not looked lately.
I know when I priced original remotes for my daughters 27" lcd they were way too much $$!!
Like almost half as much as what a brand new tv would cost
She learned to live without certain functions!!
LOL!! -
What about just replacing the remote with a new one? What I'm really wanting to know ls it the tv itself or just the remote that's the issue?
-
It's not likely the TV is at fault if some buttons are working.
The exact same Toshiba remote will probably cost you a lot more than a universal.Last edited by jagabo; 24th May 2013 at 20:10.

It wouldn't hurt to do a search including the terms "remote" + "(model number)". If the Toshiba remote is satisfactory, it might not be all that expensive. There are websites that specialize in direct replacement remotes.
About a year ago my mother's remote for her 6 year old Toshiba Regza started acting up. Same deal, some buttons stopped working. I got her a replacement identical with the original. If memory serves, it was a bit more than $10 and definitely less than $20 bucks.Pull! Bang! Darn! -

Ya I guess ill just buy a replacement remote, I just hope the replacement remote has a 3d button?!?
-
Problem could be the remote (most likely) or the TV. If it is the remote, one button may unknowingly be sticking in the on position, thereby locking out the other buttons. Another possibility is dirty circuit board. In this case, open up the remote, remove the button sheet, and use alcohol to clean the circuit board where the buttons make contact on the circuit board.
-
good point, i should clean it first for sure, i really think it is the remote, cause i've never heard of a tvs sensor bar ever dieing before on someone
-
I wouldn't recommend a universal remote, unless you enjoy re-programming them all the time, and you better hope you don't lose the booklet with the codes, because find the code list online isn't always easy. Might be worthwhile checking out a site that sells the original remote like RemoteControlHookup.com/Toshiba. It's a little more expensive, but it'll work the second you take it out of the box.
Find an original remote for your consumer electronic product by checking out RemoteControlHookup.com -
You can buy a logitech 300i or similar that will let you use the 3d button.
I think,therefore i am a hamster.
