Hi people.
I have a $100+ program installed on my PC that needs to find its original DVD in the PC's drive for the program to run.
I tried backing up the DVD, including with WinX DVD Copy Pro, but apparently the copy isn't an EXACT copy of the original DVD. With the backup DVD I get the message: "Please insert the original disc instead of a backup."
Not allowing me to safeguard my investment by storing a backup is a dreadful practice.
Anyone have any suggestions.

Moving you to our computer section. The dvd ripping is only for dvd-video.
Many programs and games are using special methods to stop copying/backup. It wont help with dvd-video copiers. -
Try using clonecd (yes it dose dvd data discs)
Alcohol 52% may also make a working backup image but mounts image files not burn them ... 120% dose. -
MyCE has a sub-forum that deals with copy protection issues: http://club.myce.com/f80/

Certain professions such as the legal profession have companies that are absolutely fanatical about protecting their software programs. There's not a lot of competition in those fields for software and right or wrong, a lot of companies treat their customers as thieves with software practices like this. The original DVD likely has something very special that is hard to duplicate. Microsoft has used similar protection on recent versions of Windows. You might look to see if a competitor's product, if one even exists, is a bit less customer unfriendly to use. Note that we can't guarantee you'll ever be able to make a backup. Specialized software may not be popular enough for hackers to look into how to copy it so there may not be anything that works. But I'd give Alcohol 120% a shot.
Bjs - Geez dude. It's "does" NOT "dose". "Dose" means something like a small measurement of something as in "A dose of cough syrup". -
I have just discovered that the DVD is protected with SecuROM.
After looking around on what's been written about SecuROM, it looks like my wish for a backup of my DVD is not going to be realised. There are number of tutorials around on cracking SecuROM (example) but I'm afraid that's all beyond me, and beyond most people I would guess.
Also, every claim I see for a SecuROM crack is very old, mostly in the 2004-2008 range, and I'm pretty sure the developers would have had fixed any cracks that old by now. -
You could try Game Jackal by Slysoft. It's specifically designed to bypass SecuRom on game discs and creates a profile image which negates the disc drive having to continually access the disc. I can't guarantee it will work for data discs but it may be worth a shot; seeing as how it has a free trial you have nothing to lose except little testing time.

I would be interested to know if it works. If you give it a try let us know how it goes.Last edited by transporterfan; 27th May 2013 at 04:25.

Hi. I didn't try it because I found a solution.
Alcohol 120% did the job just fine.
Highly recommended. -
