  1. I have a Samsung model HMX-Q10BN/XAA camcorder that does NOT have a Firewire port and neither does my computer. Is there any way to use this camcorder as a webcam?

  3. There is nothing in the manual about using it as a webcam. I tried it with a USB cable but the computer does not see the camera.

You would have to use the A/V out connected to a DVR.

The DVR can be any homeowner-type security camera system that's set up to work with smartphones, tablets, etc. The yellow video cable from the camera connects to the DVR's inputs via BNC connection, and you just use a piece of coax cable, not the digital R59, but the thicker R9 or R7 whatever it it.

But you can buy a Foscam internet cam for well under $100, and use your computer to connect to it and set it up right on your home network.

you could use the composite out to connect to an analog to digital converter. there are usb or internal cards you can purchase. probably much easier to buy a webcam though.

Just curious, why would you want to do what you describe? Are you trying to fool the wife into you getting a better camcorder? And want to find a "good use" for the old one?

If so, that's a good-un, but just drop it in the toilet accidently, listen to the lecures, wait one month, then act sad about the whole thing. She'll be begging you to buy a new one.

Then you can say that the one you really want is too expensive, and you want to try to save up for it, then...little by little, should take two weeks tops.

I want to be able to hold a class remotely to another office. I need to be able to zoom in/out for documents, whiteboards etc., pan around the room and so on.

That won't work. Not enough bandwidth on a regular internet account. You're better off buying two ipods and using facetime. And borrow a projector.

Depends on how the "remote class" is getting the feed...

If they are on the same wired LAN backbone as the cam/host & server, there's notihing stopping it from serving up at a high enough bitrate to look good. Shoot, that's what one of the Enosoft apps does (DV processor?).

Hey, you could make this a class project. When one ipad dies another takes over.

I'm not too clear on the tekkie stuff.
