  4. Ok, Thats is.
I have been reading those dumb discutions of lossy vs. lossless over the internet for far too long, and no one seens to explain te real shit to the people. So I just made an account to put and end explanation to this. I hope this sticks in the internets and when peaople search LOSSLES VS LOSSY, or anything flac related thay reach this answer. First I would like to ask to forgive english errors as this is not my primary language and it is a bit more complicated to write technical...:
This is Not about abx tests. No one can tell the diference betwenn those good lossy vs lossless audio files. if someone is making the abx tests right, it is pure luck. And thats is beacuse how human hearing works: Our brain is always reconstructing the audio signals we receive. Our hearing is a natural equalizer. THe human hearingwas such a vital part in our survival evolution, that we developted slective hearing. That is why when you are focused on a task, you stop hearing the exterior world sounds. Also, because of this reconstruction proccess, our brain is always reconstructing parcial the sound information to what it " should be" . Like trying to catch some beats footsteps sound from the lousy jungle.
Being sound and music something soo deeply conectec with our memories and emotions, when we hear any recorded music, beign a conteporany human being thats has been hearing to eletronic recordings, and is used to recorded music and our modern instruments sounds and textures, our brain automaticaly reconstruct the recording of any music to what it expects to be. Thats is way being any " trash" lousy resolution, we start hearing perfect audio quality.
But istead of validating the pratices of lossy compression and accepting and music industry whats to trow us, this explanation only makes it clear of how important is to attain to lossless audio.
And there are 3 main reasons for what you should always listen to lossless music:
1 - Psicoacustics researches have already understood that when human is exposed to compressed audio, the brain have a " lot more work" to do to reconstruct the audio, to what it expect it to be, the result is fadigue and mental estress in a long term, in other words, listening all day to mp3 makes your brain believing it is in a ******* dangerous jungle with all that noise he had to spare from the interesting information.
2 - IT IS ALL ABOUT THE NOISE
    (http://pt.scribd.com/doc/19239716/History-of-Noise-Leon-Cohen)
    - Another very interesting information if about NOISE. Noise is a very modern concept of modern science, and it goes deep into quantun fisics. In resume, NOISE is something deeply involved in what makes the matter, and what makes us.
So the world is full of noisy, and our senses are all about noise and frequencies.
All MEDIA information has noise, and it has to do with the maximum resolution the media support. Since our ears are sensibile to nano grades of information, we can distincuss noise. The fact is that all analog noise is natural and never repeats. If you have an analog media with a good information x noise factor you will always have a more pleasant experience. That is why Vinyl music, even with a lower resolution than CD, still makes a more pleasent experience, beacause of its natural noise. The same applyes to valve vs transistors amplifiers. Of course the same doesnt aply to k7 tapes, bacause they have much more noise than information.
CD , or better yet, PCM 16bit 44hz audio is a wonderful piece of tecnology because is carries a LOT of information to such a minimum level noise, it is the result of many years of development, and it is near the limiar of perception of what our ears can distinguiss. So this is what we accept as " lossless" audio, and we are fine with it. There is not reason to go down to mpeg compression, because is adds a LOT of noise to audio, and not natural, but square-repetitive noise, that is like poison to our brain.
So even if we are talking about modern music with its computer generated sounds, we still better hear it with some natural noise added (vinyl) or the lowest noise possible (PCM AUDIO).
3 - Mater balance (dynamics) - When a music is mastered and ready for the CD pressing, it has all the dynamics balanced to proper drive the speakers system when audio is turned to eletronic signals. Mpeg compression losses all that, turning the very detalied dynamics, almost natural, PCM audio carries, to a total squared , with not definition, graphic. This bad result makes the speakers works ineficiently , when they try to reproduce the squares lines the eletric signal are giving, it ends up being unable even more to reproduce the frequencyes. So in the mp3 compression, the worst loss is not the so called "frequencies human cant hear" but the removal of amplitude dynamics details (remember it is a X Y Graphics, frequencies, vs. amplitude).

So lets stick with the wonderfull invetion of PCM AUDIO for computer audio, and VInyl for the maximum musical experience.
Lets push Itunes Store to sell lossless music. And lets buy vinyl to keep the good music spinnig.

    Yours,

    Frederico Flores
