    i have a Transformers Takara Collection im trying to turn into MP4's using Vidcoder (which i do find quite good) but i found out the the deinterlacing has stopped so theres no wierdness, but i find that there it is very blocky when i play it back on VLC or on my PS3 , so im wondering if someone could explain to me what im doing wrong i can send a sample if you do need one

    the blockiness could be from too low a bitrate. try setting the cq around 18

    with the settings as shown, it still does a form of de-interlacing using yadif if needed.

    How about a short 10 second sample from the source, one showing steady movement. There's a good chance it has to be done manually and that Vidcoder can't handle it.

    how did you get it off the dvd and into an avi? weird mpeg-1 avi at that. had to rename it .mpg to play.

    if that's your source any "jiggering" is already in it before converting to mp4. it looks like a really poor telecine.

  14. oh i used avidemux to make it into a avi file but i wasnt sure how to sample a vob. i have copied the whole transformers disc 1 from dvd to hdd which leaves me with audio ts and video ts folder (full dvd) i use dvdfab8 for putting the dvd onto the hdd

  15. Yeah, it's nasty. It's a cinch VidCoder can't do anything with it. It's field-blended from a poor NTSC to PAL conversion. Ordinarily AviSynth could handle this sort of thing but in this case there are just way too many blends and nothing can return clean output. If you can, buy the NTSC DVDs. Otherwise:

    Yadif(Order=1,Mode=1)#or the slower but better QTGMC
    Srestore()

    at least allows it to play smoothly and cleans it up a little bit. To use that, though, you'll need an encoder that allows for the use of AviSynth scripts, one such as XviD4PSP.

  16. so its the dvd itself then not anything to do with encoding it

    What's a big meanie? And what is it with you and these weird AVIs? First you somehow repackaged a VOB as an AVI and now you have your x264 video in an AVI. I thought you were making MP4s?

    What's wrong with it? Did you make a VFR encode purposely? It's blended all to hell, although I mentioned earlier even AviSynth can't really clean this one up, although it can do a better job than VidCoder/Handbrake.. The main thing, I guess, is that a crappy deinterlacer was used. Yadif, I suppose. The AviSynth bobber/deinterlacer QTGMC would do a way better job. But since this "AVI" isn't from the sample, I can't show you a better version.

    vob2mpg will convert your video_ts vobs to an mpg.

    your sample is the wrong size and framerate.

    right. vidcoder will take care of the extraction. make double sure to check all settings, like constant frame rate, the output size should be 768x576, constant quality, etc....
