I'm looking for a program that will allow me to simply extract the audio from a wmv file and then put it into a different wmv file. Does anyone know of a program that can do this?

Please note that I don't want to use MKV merge for this because I need the file to be in a WMV container.

    Thanks in advance

The old windows media encoder comes with Media Stream Editor where you can multiplex and demultiplex video and audio streams.

When you open the app and load in a file, it shows you a tree structure with the various streams included. You pick the stream(s) you want. Do this all over again for streams in other files, so that in the end you have (on the left), say 3 files - the 1st using only the main video stream, the 2nd using the 1st audio stream, and the 3rd using the 2nd audio stream - and those streams have been tagged and then you pass them over to the right side so that they will look like you want them to look, say 1 file - with a video & 2 audio streams. Then you "process" this selection, providing a new filename.

That's really all there is to it.

Thanks Scott. I understand now. The reason I said i had no idea what Baldrick was talking about was because I was using Windows Media Encoder rather than Windows Media Stream Editor. Once I realised that I was all good

  7. Windows Movie Maker is a very simple program to use. If you have Windows 7, you must download the Windows Essentials package in order to get it. If you have XP, it is already in the operating system.

You add the video of the second .wmv file into the program. Then you mute the audio from this second file by clicking on the large speaker icon. Move the slider all the way to the left to mute the audio.

Then add the audio by clicking on Add Music and then browse for the file that has the audio that you want to use. Make sure that when you try to open the file, you choose All Files in the drop down list so that you could open the video file that has the audio that you want to use for this second .wmv file.

Here's the link that will explain everything perfectly: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/movie-maker#t1=overview

Then at the end, click on Save Movie in order to save it to .wmv.

I hope this simple program helps.

Thanks for trying to help me out, Spritely. But I've already achieved what I wanted to do with the help of the first couple of posts in this thread.

    Thanks anyway
