  1. Hi!

I hope this post its in the right section
After been reading for about 3 days of what processor and motherboard i should buy for hd editing, i figured this will be enough:

    Intel Core i7-3770
    Gigabyte Z77-D3H or
Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 (i dont see the difference between this 2 motherboards)
    2 Kingston DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) CL11, 8 GB.
Geforce gt630 (I already have this card)

Im confuse about Intel Quick Sync and
Virtu from LucidLogix, the forums where i´ve been reading are too technical for me. Could anybody give me some advise?

Thanks in advanced, i apologize for my bad english.

    Regards

i would wait one month, haswell is due to be released june 3rd (i think) and the bga versions (the ones soldered onto the motherboard) will sport 128mb of eDRAM in the form of a shared L4 between the gpu and cpu, my gut feeling says this is intel's ace up it's sleeve and there is speculation that it will be substantially faster than the FPGA (regular) haswells.

another thing to consider, a lot depends on your budget, serious work with high bit rate avc 1080p60 will require a ton of computing horsepower, if your budget allows you should seriously look into one of intel's 6 core 12 thread extreme edition cpu's or even a dual xeon setup.

hell, if i had the money i would put together a dual xeon right now just so i can be ready for hvec when it hits mainstream within a year or so.

  3. Thanks for the quick response deadrats!

I supose those haswell will be expensive, my budget its about 800 usd (like 10´000 mxp), also, in my country its very difficult to find high end processors...so, you think that my setup will do the work?

the reality is the most any processor is capable of editing hd content, it's just that it takes longer with slower processors. i used to edit 720p with a 2.4c P4 and then with a P4 820D, you can do it just be prepared to wait a while.

i have a 3700k with 8gigs of ddr3 and even with this setup transcoding 1080p60 makes me want to pull my hair out, forget if you want to do any sort of transitions or heavy filtering and you need to remember some video editing apps are better optimized than others, so a lot depends on the apps you're using.

you live in mexico, no? you may want to take a day trip north of the border into the u.s. and maybe buy the parts here or maybe order from one of the u.s. companies. you say your budget is about $800, is that for everything or just cpu and motherboard and you will be reusing parts from an old computer?

if you want pretty cheap, here's a decent combo from newegg and i'm pretty sure they ship to your country:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1306812

this processor is really overclockable, HT adds about 25% in well threaded apps but with some good cooling you can make up that gap and you save some cash in the process.

if $800 is just for the cpu and motherboard then consider an 3930k:

take your time, look through amazon.com, tigerdirect.com and newegg.com and get the best bank for your buck.
