  1. Hi there - i had an idea for a project but am stuck on the techie details, hopefully someone can help! The idea involves a freestanding LCD monitor running on battery rather than plugged into a wall. ideally the the battery would be as small as possible and concealable. Also, i would like to strip the monitor of its casing and if possible connection to a computer and have it just display a single video clip on loop that would come from a source directly connected to the display - would anyone know how this could be achieved?? thanks in advance to any and all responses!

  2. Why not just use a tablet?

  3. Tablets are far too expensive for what i'm trying to make :/ plus i need it bigger and stripped so it can be attached to fabric for an installation.

  4. If it were me (and I'm glad its not), instead of stripping down a monitor I would try a laptop replacement screen as its already stripped. Probably get one cheaper and likely use less power as its intended to run off battery to begin with.

You'd need to find the right LVDS to VGA/DVI adapter and run the power ribbon to a battery. All doable but not for a novice.

  5. I missed the part about it needing to be 12".
rnb5500, suggestion of a laptop replacement screen may be the best idea.

If it can be bigger, 15" LCD monitors are not too expensive. Here's some used ones on Amazon for $30

What is your budget? A quick check brought up some 10.1" tablets as low as $100.00. For about the same price you can get a 12" used laptop and strip it down.

Edit: If you can use just a sequence of photos, a 12" digital photo frame can be had for about $100.00 too.

Also, if you strip an LCD of its frame, it's pretty flimsy and prone to breakage.
