Ripping with Translation subtitles

Hi Guys

I am backing up my DVD collection to my NAS box, for the most part i have no issues however a few films are giving me grief.

I dont want the subtitles, i rip my DVD's using Magic DVD ripper and rip as original MPEG2 no props. The issue arrises when i want to rip a film which has subtitles for a foriegn/alien langague .....

.....ie when i play the Hunt For Red October the subtitles are not on however when Sean Connery is in his cabin talking to the poltical office they are speaking in Russian and you get subtitles to english up to the point where they start speaking english. These subtitles i want to keep

It seems to vary from DVD to DVD, Avatar for instance it has all the subtitles for when the Navi are speaking native and my directors cut of stargate has some scences that work and others that don't

Is there anyway to keep these subtitles???

Yes, but you're being a little unclear.

'No props'? Do you mean to say 'no problem'? Also, all you're doing is decrypting the DVD to the hard drive? If so, the subtitles will play as they do in the original. So, if they're not playing you've changed something, probably by not getting them in the first place. Are you somehow removing subtitle streams while decrypting? I have no idea what Magic DVD Ripper is and/or does.

You're not converting to another format, just decrypting the DVD and keeping it as a playable DVD?

I suspect you removed them when removing the subtitles you said you didn't want. Forced Subs are often part of a larger subtitle stream. Or they may have their own separate subtitle stream. In any event, unless you're absolutely clear about what streams contain what, you shouldn't be removing them. They take up next to no room anyway, relative to the size of the movie.

Hi

A) Yeah that should have read no probs

B) Original MPEG2 s the 'profile' i am using, there is no encoding. i could select AVI or MP4 here ut it takes about a week

C) The default subtitle option for MEPG2 is 'No Subtitle' Im not changing anything but to check i shoved the Hunt For Red October back into my DVD drive and there are no subtitles to select from anyway.

I have attached a screen shot of Magic DVD Ripper and my settings. By you're "Yes" & the fact you have never heard of Magic DVD Ripper can i assume that you have this working and in which case what software do you use?

And you know that's incorrect, right? Because when you play the DVD you can choose subs? According to the review of this R2 UK DVD version of it, there are 12 different languages from which to choose:

For DVDs with advanced copyright protection one uses DVDFab HD Decrypter. For those with no advanced protection one uses DVD Decrypter in File Mode. If you want to get rid of menus and extras and the like, afterwards maybe use DVDShrink to reauthor it.

I know there is subtitles on the disc what i mean it wont let me select them
