I have a problem with 720p and 1080p Mkv-s in Vlc. While i m playing 720p and 1080p mkv is in vlc 2.0.6 they are stuttering and lagging on some part of the movie. When i turned on the gpu acceleration the stutterin and lagging is gone. then i tried the same filles play in several other players with and without gpu acceleration if they had the option for gpu acceleration. The players were MPCHC,Gom player,KMPlayer,PotPlayer and SMplayer an there was no stuttering on same part of the movie as in VLC. So my questions are:
    1. why are the mkv lagging in vlc when is gpu acceleration turned off but they are not lagging in others players with gpu acceleration turned off?
    2. Is my Cpu too slow for playing 1080p and 720p mkv? or is it just a problem in vlc?
    3. Which of this all players schould i use for video playback and how scould i configure them for best settings?
Please answer to all 3 questions!
My pc configuration is: CPU- Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3.30GHz
    Motherboard: Asus P8H61-MX R2.0
    Gpu: MSI Radeon Hd 7750 1GB DDR 5 (R7750-1GD5/OC)
    Ram : 8 gb
    OS : Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

The problem is not your system. It is plenty strong enough to play 720 and 1080p files.

It sounds to me like VLC does not have the video codecs that you need to play certain videos, but some of the other players DO have the necessary codecs built in.

You should download mediainfo and use it to generate a report on the files that you are having difficulties with. Post your results here and then we can speculate better on the nature of your situation.

On a side note, MPCHC is my favorite player.

  3. Do you have a recent version of VLC? Older versions of VLC's had a single threaded h.264 decoder so it had problems with 1080p and 720p50/60.

Which players to use is a personal choice. I use MPCHC most of the time. But sometimes I fall back on VLC, KMPlayer, PotPlayer, or Window Media Player.

I asked on vlc forum about stuttering and answer was: Because vlc's video core need some rework to properly handle the "delay" induced by multithreaded CPU decoding. It's a bug, it is known but it is very hard to solve, so for now if you have such problems, stay in GPU decoding mode.

Still, I think your i3 should be able to handle the files you posted. Try the different video output modules. Make sure you haven't added any slow filters. Make sure you haven't forced deinterlacing with one of the slower modes. Reset all the preferences.

PC spec is fine, sounds like a codec issue, try playing in windows media player classic or built in windows media player,
wmp isnt the best player but it will play them if you have the correct codecs installed.
if not codec packs are down to personal pref's, you could try K-lite pack or Matroska pack.
maybe other members may have better advice.
