About a year ago I started putting together a punk band online. We finally got all the pieces together and have our first song completed.

To make sure we had everything working and operational, we decided to cover The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated before we worked on original material.

We've never met IRL, so it was an interesting process to bring it all together.

Check it out here and let me know what you think.

It could be my crappy speakers, but it sounded like there was an unwanted electrical hum in the background throughout, but mostly only noticeable toward the end. Or maybe it was intentional and I just don't care for it. But overall it sounded pretty good. (Not my type of music, but well done nonetheless.) So tell us a little about the process of recording with a virtual band. Did you use professional studios to record the parts or just record at home? Or a combination? What did you use to mix it? Did you fileshare around so each musician could "play along" while recording their part? Inquiring minds want to know...

The process was very easy. The drummer (in MN, USA) tracked and recorded the drums. We uploaded them wav to dropbox for us to download.

The guitarist (in Ireland) recorded his part to the drums, and I recorded the bass and claps to the drums too. This way we were all in time together.

Once the music was done, the guitarist recorded the vocals and the guitar solo.

Once I had all the wav files, I took them into Audacity and mixed them together.

Nice and easy. About as basic as you can get.

Glad y'all like it. We're already working on two next songs.

Ditto with gadgetguy - probably my crappy speakers. But looking beyond that it sounds pretty good.
