Hi all,
I am not interested at all in the "TV" part of a DVR, I am just looking for a DVR with RCA inputs in order to capture old VHS. I am looking for a standalone box, not needing a computer.
I used a Lacie Lacinema Black Record for the first 30 or so tapes, but it really has a bad interface, and zero config options (output format... etc.)
What would be your suggestions for a good DVR for this. I have hundreds of tapes in different formats from the 50's til today to capture. I am looking for a simple solution not requiring re-encoding or any work in the computer after.
Thanks,
Zoqwvysp

You didn't get an answer because you gave no in formation about what part of the world you live in. I'll assume you don't buy your stuff in North America, because few people in N.A. these days can afford to spend money on LaCie products. If you don't care about the TV functions, why did you buy a DVR? Ever heard of a DVD recorder? http://www.whathifi.com/reviews/home-cinema/dvd-recorders
If you live in NTSC country you can try Walmart.Last edited by sanlyn; 28th Mar 2014 at 18:41.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I am in Canada.
I did buy the Lacie in France though. I moved around a lot lately
I am not interested in DVD recorder, I would like to have them stored directly on a hard drive (I will later cut and edit all, and I do not trust DVD's as a storage for long term)
I did see this Magnavox on Walmart US (although it is not available in Canada). I was wondering if there were other options.
Thanks anyway,

If you don't want the hard-drive equipped Magnavox DVD recorders, there may be some specialty retailers carrying "international" or "multi-system" DVD recorders with a hard drive that can record both PAL and NTSC video signals from composite or S-Video connections. I don't know what retailers in Canada might carry such merchandise, so here is a link to a recorder at a US retailer for illustration purposes.

I hope you realize that dubbing to DVD is the only way to offload recordings from nearly every DVD recorder's hard drive because the recordings are almost invariably encrypted.
