How can I retrieve and watch all my old videos on my mini DV tapes? I can't find a VHS converter anywhere and unfortunately the camcorder I had years ago got broken by a friend so I have all these old movies and no way to get them on my computer...can anyone help?

There are no VHS converters for mini DV. You are confusing it with VHS-C. You can buy a used mini DV camcorder or pay a service to transfer them for you. Depending on how many tapes you have, a service may be more expensive than buying a used camcorder.

Exactly. 4 choices:
1 buy a dvcam, possibly also a firewire card for your pc. Xfer them yourself
2 buy a dv tape deck, poss also the card. Xfer them yourself.
3 have a service (or friend) do it for you.
4 give up and throw out the tapes.
Just like with vhs, the longer you wait to decide this, the more this is decided for you.

How many tapes do you have that need to be captured? If there are not too many, I can do it for you free of charge if you are based in the USA. Send me a private message if interested.
