    Hi;

    I am (like many others on here) about to embark on saving my VHS family video memories before VHS players become non existent.

    I have a dual boot PC that I have built out of spares for the project and have successfully installed a Hauppage HVR 1300 on the Windows 7 Partition and can capture direct to MPEG.

    I also have an old Studio PCTV Rave that I have been trying all day to set up to try and capture lossless using VirtualDub. I spent hours trying to install it and get the Btwincap Drivers working but I think it was conflicting with the Haupagge HVR 1300 so I disconnected it and I have now successfully installed the card, the Pinnacle Drivers and the Btwincap Drivers.

    I have the VCR connected SCART to Composite and RCA Audio.

    In VirtualDub when I select Capture AVI and select Device/Conextant's BtPCI Capture (Direct Show) the picture is very dark almost black however when I select Device/Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32) (VFW) the picture is normal.

    Questions:

    1. I thought I'd need the BtPCI Device to capture full resolution, that's why I installed it so what's wrong and how do I get a normal capture image.

    2. Is the Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32) (VFW) the correct device to use?

    3. What settings do I need in virtual dub to get a good capture.

    4. Do I need to install the original Studio PCTV Rave Pinnacle Drivers before installing the Btwincap drivers or should I uninstall them?

    Thanks

    The Btwincap drivers are only for BT8... chipsets. If your card does not have one of these they will not work.

    Full list of supported cards here:

    http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/supportedcards.html

    The drivers IIRC over-write the already installed drivers which might explain why your are getting poor results when trying to use the device with these drivers.

    I am sure the card I have is a Studio PC TV Rave (At least that's the original Driver CD I had for it unless I have mixed up somewhere and this is another card) On the back of the card is printed 'ROB2D-660806-2.0'.

    The Chipset on the card is a Fusion 848A so am I mixed up somewhere?

    As far as I can tell that chipset is supported. Maybe you did not install the btwincap drivers correctly.

    Suggest you re-install the original drivers and then follow the installation instructions:
