I have a decrypted Blu-Ray movie and I want to edit the closed caption track. It's a foreign film in French and English, but it was released in the U.S. without a true subtitle track. Instead I have to look at descriptions of every sound in the movie and text for every line of English language dialogue. My French isn't good enough to shut this off.

I want to remove the extra crap and either make a Blu-Ray or MKV (or maybe something compatible for my PS3) from the result. I've edited subtitles on a couple of DVDs, using DVDSub-Edit. Doing this on Blu-Ray I'm lost. I'm not sure how to proceed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Win 8-64 bit.

  2. So I take it from your description it's all a mishmash in a single subtitle track. Here is what I would do.

    - Demux the PGS stream to a sup file using tsMuxerGUI
    - Import this .sup into Subtitle Edit: File -> Import/OCR Bluray sup file ..
    - Run it through OCR unticking "Prompt for unknown words"
    - Tools -> Remove text for hearing impaired ...
    - And while at it: Tools -> Fix common errors
    - Spell check -> Spell check (since "Prompt for unknown words" was unticked)
    - File -> Export -> Bluray sup (or export/Save as .. which ever formatt suits you)
    - Mux the new sup file into your m2ts file using tsMuxerGUI

Thanks. That got me started. I tried removing the CC portions with Tools> Remove Text For Hearing Impaired and Subtitle Edit stripped out all the subtitles. This is something I'll have to take care of manually, but it doesn't display any of the text for me to edit and I don't see a way to improve the situation. Any suggestions?

    I don't understand?

After the OCR you should have something like shown below. Here subtitle 1-5 is purely closed captions or hard-of-hearing contained in square brackets as well as subtitles 7-9 cotains partly CC. After removing text for the hearing impaired you should get something like shown in the next picture. And I forgot to mention at this point you should use Tools -> Start numbering from ... selecting 1. And you can always use Edit -> Undo.

Thanks for getting back on that. This is what I'm seeing, and I'm not sure what I can do about it.

  6. Try to upload your .sup file as an attachment.

Closed Captions are NOT THE SAME as subtitles!

It is unlikely that the source video has CC at all given how the OP is hinting that he got this from Bit Torrent or some similar source. Using CC tools on subtitles is likely part of the problem.

No doubt it was too large.

The fine print on the Blu-Ray cover: Subtitles: English SDH, Spanish

No, I didn't expect that when I bought it. And having opened it I couldn't return it. Have you anything constructive to add to this thread?

  12. I tried to run your .sup through OCR in Subtitle Edit and didn't experience any problems. I attach the result. I recorded the process and put it on utube here:

and I don't know what went wrong for you.

Thanks very much! I'll continue to review your video to see why I couldn't get the text onscreen. I'm also removing the English subtitles for the English language dialogue, so I have my work cut out for me.

  14. Good luck with your project. At least it's very easy to delete subtitles with Subtitle Edit

Educating you out of your ignorance is constructive. And you proved my point - these are not closed captions.

  16. BR does not have CCs. Those are put in line 21? & BR has no line for that so therefore, only subtitles on BR.
