Are there any decent editing programs that can import and, optionally, export VC-1? There's a plethora that can handle it H.264/MPEG-4/AVC, but these usually choke on VC-1 in my experience. I've gone to the websites of most of the editing software makers, and none specifically mention VC-1.

WMV is a type of VC-1 video. Perhaps Windows Movie Maker is worth a try, especially if you have Windows Media Player 11 installed. I almost forgot... Virtualdub might also work, with fcchandler's Windows Media Plugin installed.

You'd think Windows Movie Maker would be able to handle VC-1. But no, sadly, VC-1 is the strange cousin no one wants to introduce to the family. Installed most recent version of WMM on Win7. The AVC files have thumbnails that reveal content, while VC-1 has the dreaded generic filmstrip in lieu of content. When I select anyway, I get an audio preview, but the video preview screen remains black. And even the audio skips. Sad, really.

Asfbin is another editor for WMV and ASF files. Have you tried it yet?

Also, you never mentioned the container file format/file extension used for the VC-1 video you want to edit. Maybe repackaging it in a different container would help.

.m2ts is the file extension, i.e. a blu-ray rip. Any suggestions as to what container might make sense?

Sorry, I didn't have much time to research the problem until today. If addu's suggestion didn't work, I found another option for you to try. I saw this link for repackaging .m2ts to .mkv in another VH thread: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/03/31/mkv-mania-clown_bd-mkvmerge/ You don't need to worry about subtitles if they are not needed.
