  1. Hi,

I'm a percussionist and occasionally have to film my self playing drums and other percussion instruments for auditions and other reasons. I record with a Canon Vixia HFR20 and then import the videos to a Mac computer. Once on the PC I then convert the video files to MPG so that I can import the video to iMovie. Once I import the video to iMovie I edit the film and then export it has an .mp4. Here everything is great. However, once I put the video on a computer running Microsoft, there is immediately audio sync issues. If I do all the editing on the computer running Microsoft then I still end up with the audio sync issues.

Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

    Thanks

Edit: The audio seems to get a little more out of sync as the video plays on.

  2. Also, if I upload the video to a website, such as vimeo, the video plays fine on any computer. However, if I send the file to myself (either through a flash drive or web) and try to play it on Windows 7, there is audio sync issues no matter the file type (avi, mpg, mov, etc.). The video plays fine on a mac.

Edit: I tried one last thing to test. I took my video from Vimeo that works fine on any PC and downloaded it to my laptop that runs Windows 7. Once I downloaded, I add the same sync issues that I was having before.

To me it seems that your Windows player has a problem with the specific file format you encoded to. Other machines play it well, and your Windows machine plays video streamed from the web well.

What results do you get playing your encode on other Windows machines?

What results do you get on the Windows machine when using a self-contained (does not use external decoders) player, e.g. MPlayer?

If you do narrow the problem down to your computer, and you want to keep on using the same player, start a new thread asking for help on that specifically.

If, on the other hand, results point to your encode somehow causing problems on all Windows machines, you'll need to experiment with different encoding settings to remove the problem. Look for settings that relate to synchronisation.

    Cheers,
    Francois

  4. Thanks for the reply.

I get the same issue no matter the computer.
I did notice that MPlayer does work a little better, but there is still a little bit of audio issues. The more it plays the more it gets out of sync in MPlayer.

Could you post short samples of an edited and an encoded clip, also indicating what symptoms to look out for where?
