ok so i think this is still the #1 forum/place for end-user video stuff? (even though the web design is SO AWFUL)
==
anyway, here's the very bare minimal of what's needed to be best for me:
1 updated recently
* (very leading and key predictor that it is continuing to get better and better)
2 be easy to use
*autoloads subtitles in any way it can (should read subtitle file automatically, dont think VLC does this, i thnk kmplayer and splash lite does)
*can play hd, .flv without problems
*easy way to full screen
*able to easily repeat, auto play next file within the same folder (dont think vlc does)
*has a "always stay on top" option
3 be fastest
==
(optional, not needed)
*has a forum/place to ask for help (not needed because you can ask on sites like these)
other factors are important also -- you be the judge
you know a lot more than me (well maybe after seeing that first reply....), so what do you recommend? (need to give proven reason or everyone should just ignore your comment
im trying to figure out which is most reliable -- or helpful -- out of these two articles:
http://dottech.org/89095/windows-best-free-video-player-program/
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-windows-media-player-replacement.htm#Quick_Selection_Guide
some picks on here are incredibly different

This is not realistic.
There's nothing to stop me from having a video named MYVIDEO.AVI and a subtitle file named SCUMBAG.SRT. How would you possibly automatically figure out that those 2 are related? You wouldn't. And what about if you don't want the subs to play? Must you delete them or move them to stop this "feature"?
This makes no sense. What does this even mean? Do you mean startup time? What player do you know of that doesn't start immediately? -
"How would you possibly automatically figure out that those 2 are related?"
-- added "in any way it can" (and a video player example that does this) to make it more specific for ppl like you, dont worry this is not surgery
-- automatic just means it can. im not sure why you would give an example of a sub that is different than the video name (needless)
-- if it does it via with the same video and sub name, then it's fine
-- and btw, it is realistic, you just dont know the algorithm (you also didnt recommend any video player, you just bittched..... on this forum that a complete redesign)
"and what about if you don't want the subs to play?"
-- i want them to, or i wont have them
"Must you delete them or move them to stop this "feature"?"
-- yea, np, very minor, completely trivial, i would just rename, abc.mp4 to abcd.mp4
"What does this even mean?"
-- your silly
"Do you mean startup time?" What player do you know of that doesn't start immediately?
-- fastest overall, performance is key in any software/app, nothing newLast edited by rm2dance; 14th Apr 2013 at 21:32.

Your first link is a crappy site so I didn't bother with the 2nd.
Look at the ones on this site and find one you like. -
wow these replies so far are pretty bad -- for your recommendations, you gave no reasons... and that other person obviously didn't even read.....

You surely don't need a flashy sites to discuss things and hurt the eyes while reading them

"Just set the 'subtitle autodetection fuzziness' to 1"
-- ok.. but this is definitely not obvious to most ppl and that's definitely a really large minus (defintely won't be the best, but may be best out of possible options)
"MPC-HC/PotPlayer"
-- have no idea if these meets the "*autoloads subtitles" because you replaced them with vlc
"See #1 option #1 suggestion."
-- you're referring to the links i mentioned??? that isn't the goal of this thread :/

"don't need a flashy" -- web design is not jsut about the makeup, it's about the layout, etc. and everything else, and this site is probably long overdue for one. i understand there's a lot of sections/content but it's very cluttered and messy. a good designer/developer would know how to fix that -- can just copy the high quality sites, rare and few and far betweenLast edited by rm2dance; 15th Apr 2013 at 00:41.

Reason why I didn't recommend this oldie at the first place. VLC is good for crappy files that might not play in other players. Its success rate of playing corrupt files is impressive. Other than that its no good as you can't use external filters/codecs/renderers like LAV/Madvr etc for a better picture quality or wide range of codec support. You can keep this as an alternative in case you need it.

even if both the files transformer_1080p_Brrip.mp4 , transformer_eng.srt resides in the same folder,
I like KMP mostly for its great interface but use potplayer and anything else (VLC, MPC, SMPlayer etc). -
first, you begin to insult this site some might agree with you, but since we come here a lot, we either like it, or we dont care. so starting with insults, not a smart move.
also, webdesign ...??? If you felt the need to mention it AND even BEGIN with an insult, you really ae clueless about what's really important.

On top of it all, you pollute this thread with crappy links.
So, yes, I could have helped you, but NO, I won't.
So, go fCUk yourself with your attitude and your insults.
Better start groveling and begging or piss off.
I ADVISE EVERYONE NOT TO HELP THIS RIM PERSON!!Last edited by KneeRow; 15th Apr 2013 at 06:24.
Looking for subtitles of: Höök tt0997023, Lime tt0269480, La clé sur la porte tt0077348. tt=iMDb.com Found Desideria tt0081724 subtitle! :-) -
In reply to ******** there is nothing wrong with those links they work fine to me do you know how to use a mouse.

Thanks, I somehow missed that option. VLC has the option too, yes! I just wish I could see this feature in MPC-HC and also the auto playing feature that plays the next file without having to add them to playlist or press 'PgDn' key.
But out of curiosity is the feature (marked in red) performs that function? I didn't happen to see it working or that I never saw/understood its implementation (clicked one of the many files in the folder and tried seeking to end but it didn't load the next file but instead rewind the same). -

I don't know what the option does but I figured out how to auto play the next file in the folder. You have to right click on MPC-HC window and go to 'After Playback' > 'Play next in the folder'. I think its only then, that the said option is executed
We should have figured this earlier anyway. Now, an auto loading of any subs in the folder is required but I guess there is a limitation of this feature due to the simple logic that it may load unrelated subs if two or more movies and their subs are in the same folder -

"good for crappy files.."
-- ok though it's expected that files are high quality, or at least medium quality (just not low-end), so this is a helpful though insignificant plus
"behind VLC"
-- intesrsrting that vlc has advance subtitles feature, though the low usability completely outweigh this nice point for msot ppl
"option for this in potplayer."
-- nvm
so it seems like MPC-HC is significantly more buggy, less developed and basic features like 'play all' doesnt even work
also, the very few requirements were all basic so if a video player couldn't do any, then it's very likely (though not guarantee) that it's not #1
"great interface of [kmplayer]"
-- not sure if this is about the usability or the visual design of the ui
ok so basically the people overall on this forum picked potplayers as #1 though there was **no clear reason.** only thing mentioned was why vlc wasnt included -- "you can't use external filters/codecs/renderers like LAV/Madvr etc"
-- so if they give better picture quality, all of these should be built-in.
whilst initially up to the experienced ones, having now a better understanding, i can see which of those links were more helpful/reliable, if any ^_^
