What format is your capture source in?

I didn't look at your clips but...

If you want 720p as output you should capture from a 720p source. It seems to me that the HD PVR2 uses a very simple algorithm to downsize from 1080p. If your source is interlaced ie 1080i then don't expect the Hauppauge to convert it to progressive on the fly so 720p won't be an available option. Also, I don't have a composite dongle but I wouldn't expect it to provide an option to increase the resolution either.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

Upconverting was not a feature on the hdpvr 1. The hdpvr 1 that I have only records the incoming resolution. It doesn't change it. And it won't accept a 1080p signal.

Basically it will record only what you throw at it. I'm assuming the same is true of the 2nd generation model.

Also the poster should check the connections to make sure nothing is loose. Also unplug and plug in the hdpvr again to make sure nothing is wacky with the connection to the computer.

Edit - I do believe the hdpvr 2 model will allow 1080p recording. Don't know for sure but I think it does.

I own the HDPVR1 and also bought the HD pvr2 and it will down-convert (not up-convert) but it has certain limitations which limit its usefulness. You're right that it will capture 1080p.

Click on the "Format Settings" and choose the "Hauppauge H264 Encoder" tab. In the upper right hand corner of the panel there is a "Source" section which shows the input info

    Edit:

I posted some info including pics of the panel later in this thread

You don't enable the source resolution within the HD PVR2 on that panel it's only providing information about the source and video input you selected in the previous panel.

So what does it show in the Source boxes for you? As you know you can down-convert by putting a check mark in the "Video Scaler" box and then choosing the scale-down option that you want but as I said before there are limitations if you do it that way. If your source box says 1080i then you can't select 720p since you can't go from interlaced to progressive. If your input is 1080p you can select 720p but the output will only be 30 fps even if the source is 60 fps.

It is much better to set the output resolution you want to capture at in the device you are capturing from ie... cable stb, xbox360.... . If you want 720p/60 fps then set the source (cable box, satellite, xbox360) to output that resolution and the PVR2 will automatically capture it for you as long as you leave the "Video Scaler" box blank.

Hey well I hopefully fixed my problem what I did was...

    1) went to options on the top right corner.
    2) then I went down to preference.
    3) then go to other.
    4) then there will be something called upload to YouTube.
    5) click the bubble that has 1280 x 720 (HD)

That is what helped me but I haven't done a test video yet
but I hope u will remember those steps if any other person needs help like I did
