No good, i'm getting the ASF files not supported sign again.
Am i missing something else?
You can try renaming extension to .wmv
You can try the ffinputdriver for vdub
directshow input driver for vdub
you can open it with an avisynth script
Make sure your "WMV.vdplugin" file, from the link above, is in the Virtualdub\plugins32 folder. You might also use Mediainfo to check the actual codecs in your file since you did not say what the file name, type, or mediainfo is. We assume it is a WMV of some type since you got the ASF message but additional information would help.
Also, I noticed the download link contains 2 vdplugins, one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit. Make sure the correct one is used for the correct version of Virtualdub. My preference is 32bit Virtualdub and 32 bit wmv.vdplugin (not WMV64.vdplugin) since 64 bit has always been a little buggy on my system and there are less codecs available.

Still no luck.
Do i have this right?
sorry, Yes it's WMV
If all else fails download the filters PoisonDeathRay listed, especially the DShowinputdriver and the FFinputdriver and then when you open the file select the FFmpeg of Dshow input choices and then select your video. It should open fine since Dshow uses the same filters Windows uses and FFmpeg uses ffmpeg to decode.
This will also help determine if something else is wrong, as might happen if Dshowinput fails or ffmpeg fails also. Give these a try since they are great filters to use for all types of files.
You need to download ffdshow and in the VFW settings, select WMV9 to open all Windows Media Files. You can do this through either ffdshow or through Virtualdub under Video > Compression > ffmpeg > Codecs. You might as well select any other files that you need to open (FLV, H264 etc...) and choose libavcodec.
You may have to install the DivX WMA Audio Decoder also (or DivX 3.11) since it's a hack of wma codec.
Thanks to everyone for your help in this thread. Your help is much appreciated.
I just installed DShowinputdriver and it worked fine.
I forgot to say the file is wmv HD and not wmv do i need to install anything else?
I'm using MSU Logo Remover Video plugin. I have it another wall. I get to the stage where i have to" tick remove logo, preview" If you look at screen capture http://i45.tinypic.com/25f1xsh.jpg instead of logo masked etc, the preview is solid red.
Please, could anyone advise me again?

There is a pretty good guide at http://www.scribd.com/doc/6199498/MSU-Logo-Remover-UserGuide and a video at http://tutorials.downloadroute.com/video-173579.html for MSU logo remover. If you have problems there are several others that work well, especially for the scrolling type. I prefer Logoaway V4.01 especially if you play with the blur and x-y weight.
Delogo is also excellent but you will also need a manual that can be read and downloaded at http://neuron2.net/delogo132/delogo.html.
It is difficult to completely remove some logs completely and make them invisible so I just threw in several I use depending on the type Logo you wish to remove in case one doesn't work well for you.
