  1. Last night I rented "Bourne Supremacy" from our local movie rental store and the disk they gave me was a two sided disk with blue ray on one side and DVD on the other. Has anyone ever seen this type of disk for sale in blank form? By the way the movie was dumb. Not at all like the book. They hardly followed the story and I would not recommend this movie. But the book was super.

  2. I suspect the cost of 1 DVD blank + 1 Blu Ray Blank will remain far less than the cost of a 2-sided hybrid BR/DVD blank for a long, long time. There's really no market for it.

Hollywood is doing a lot of things to cripple the BluRay rental market. It's very common now to find special BluRay editions made only for rental stores (including Netflix) which contain the movie, a few trailers for other films, and absolutely no other extra content of any kind. This means that Hollywood is authoring multiple BluRay masters with some being for sale and others being for rental. I've never heard of a BD/DVD 2 sided disc, but I guess this might be the future too to avoid making separate DVD and BD copies. If you still have the disc, can you check to see if it's thicker than a regular BD or DVD disc? The extra thickness has been an issue before on some attempts to do 2 sided discs, but it's not a common problem.

It's not uncommon at all for movies to not follow the books they were based on. SciFi/Fantasy author Orson Scott Card has written about this and he has stated that if an author sells his/her book to be made into a movie, they have to accept that there will be differences, sometimes major ones. The Showtime TV show "Dexter" was originally based on a series of books but early on it started to deviate from the books and by season 2 it basically became its own animal with the books and TV show now following completely different story lines where what happens in one has no impact on the other.

  5. Jman98- Thickness is same as regular blue ray disk. The hub had words like 'This side blue ray' 'turn over for dvd' and no words printed on other hub side. I assumed that 'This side for blue ray' meant this side UP for blue ray but I could've been wrong. When playing it had menu for subs in 4 languages and extras and chapters. The video store says that they hate this kind of disk as one side, or the other side, always has finger prints on it and they have to take time to clean it before renting it again.

Because of the way the layers work in both DVD & BD, it hasn't been as difficult to create a 2-sided hybrid disc like this as it was back in the day for DVD+CD. And I thought they solved the thickness issue a couple of years ago anyway.

I expect, for economizing reasons, you'll see more of these in the future.

And, NO, you'll probably NEVER see a blank/burnable version of this. EVER. This would ONLY be available in stamped/replicated discs.

AFAIK, it does only exist as pressed ones.
The time they were introduced into the market the industry tried something, as before with other media combos.
