Hi,
I'm new here, so at first a big hello to all.
I hope you can help me to solve my problems.
I got a Backup-DVD that was made of a live-concert with special Video-Equipment.
But the sound lacks and there's only the left audiochannel - so I would like to edit the sound.
The Video is low quality (352x240 4:3 NTSC and squeezed together - eggheads)
These were my steps...
1. Demux Video and Audio with VOBEdit -> I got 2 files (VTS_1.m2v and VTS_1.ac3)
2. Convert VTS_1.ac3 to VTS_1.mp2 using BeSweet
3. Edit VTS_1.mp2 using Adobe Audition (copy the left to the right channel and other editing)
4. Author the final DVD (without menu) using DVD-labPro2
DVDlab reportet about the demuxed VTS_1.m2v...
- to high bitrate for MPEG1 Video -> the bitrate is above 8700kbps but the video quality is only VCD (352x240)
- open GOPs
I can compile the DVD but the result is bad...
Sound is ok but async to video and video is alternating stuttering and to fast.
1. What can I do to sync video/audio?
2. What can I do to get a fluent video?
3. What can I do to get the right aspect ratio (no more eggheads)
I hope you can give me some hints, please.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
ziha

I was just making sure you had 48k audio. No use going from AC3 to MP2 then back to AC3 (like many DVD authoring programs do).
Also your other assumption is correct.....that bitrate is WAY too high....even for MPEG2. I've even seen players like VLC choke and sputter on a ultra-high bitrate MPEG2 file.
The only way I know around the halfD1 problem is load the file into MPEG-VCR (my personal choice) and make sure it outputs the video to normal 720x480 video. DVD players and computer software players SHOULD be able to display a DVD authored as HalfD1 "normally"....they're supposed to....but I've had hit-or-miss luck in that area.
My GUESS is that the bitrate is what is causing your sputtering problem though. -
Hmm... the original Backup-DVD plays fine (VOB bitrate is up to 12000kBit/s).
The demuxed VTS_1.m2v plays fine and also the 'open GOPs fixed' VTS_1.m2v.
Yes, this seems to be the problem while compiling the final DVD.
I tried MPEG-VCR but it craches.
I tried TMPEGEnc 4.0 XPress and TMPGEnc 2.5 -> both results in black video output.
Any other suggestion to reduce the bitrate? -
Hi hech54,
good news, it works
VOB2MPEG was a very good suggestion.
1. Converting original VOB to MPG using VOB2MPEG
2. Demuxing the MPG using TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress
3. Converting and editing audio.
4. Authoring the final DVD using DVD-LabPro2
5. Changing IFO-file from 4:3 to 16:9 using IFOAR2WS (no more eggheads)
Thank you very much.
Best regards

Awesome.
Programs like VOBEdit and IFOEdit are irreplaceable tools for for some crazy, intricate work....but I never understood the fascination with them for use with simple stuff like you are doing. I know it's not "simple" to you....but using VOBEdit for stuff like this is like sledgehammer to make an omelet.
