But putting in the horizontal mombo wasn't exactly what I wanted to see. Please post a warning that theres gonna be sex in the video before you post.

  3. Hey everybody! After some connection problems, I'm back online
I am still busy making a movie about a summercamp video, but I'm stuck, perhaps somebody can give me an advise.
Because of a camera problem, I don't have very much material to use, so I've got to use pictures, but what is a good way it put pictures in video's, without making it boring?
About the movie, there is a temporary one on my site, but in fact I'm only happy with the waterscène. It contains quite much errors, but first I want to know how I should build my movie.
So does somebody how to put pictures in the video on an intersting way?
You can see my crappy movie here: http://members.lycos.nl/bartes13/FieldOfVisions/en/fland_en.php

I think you don't have the Mpeg-2 codec installed.
The easiest way to install it is using elecard (it's in the tools section )

I've read through this thread and downloaded many of the movies. I really like the idea of sharing videos and the bouncing ideas off others.

I'm very new to editing home movies, and my first one is of my daughter walking (she's only 1 year old).

    http://www.mvlewis.com/~djb/ABBY_WALKING.mpg

(right click on the link and go to save as... the file is 34.7MB, sorry it's so big)

I did this first video to help learn how to do it so I can do a "Montage" (if that's the right term or not) of her entire first year. I was going to take some of the best video from throughout the year (5 - 90 minutes tapes) and put it together to a musical collection or just put background music to it and allow the other audio to come through.

Has anybody done some videos like this, since I really don't know which is the best way? And I'm looking for some ideas to get started (I have a serious lack of imagination!)

No, seriously, I really am looking for honest opinions and possible ideas for future videos of my daughter.
No really, I have no idea what I'm doing.

  8. By the way, I like your Abby Walking video abudguy. I have a 9 month old daughter and she is close to taking off across the room too. If you don't mind me asking, what is that song you play at the end during the credits? I should be able to place it but I just can't.

One idea, depending on the quality of the of the photos taken, is to zoom and pan across. Its not the best of ideas but it will make thing more interesting.

    Thanks for the reply.

The song is the last part of The Forrest Gump theme by Alan Silvestri. I just thought it had a nice touch for a classy ending.

Do you know of anywhere where people make home movies like that? I'm interested in getting ideas for my next compilation, but I can't find any good ways to mix a lot of 30sec clips of her first year, and maybe set it to music. Any help would be great!

I have heard many people request that the film be edited, so the timeline is correct.

Well, the Vite version was PAL, 25fps, 640 x 272 SBX divx3.11 and vbr mp3.

It took a bit of doing, but their release was converted back to 24fps and the mp3 to a length-adjusted wav. It was then opened in vdub and vid/audio direct stream copied to a new file from the second keyframe to the second to last keyframe. It was then opened in adobe premiere 6.0 and each track in time was razor cut and all the info about each track was jotted down in excel. In frame #, out frame # and various info about what was happening in the movie. This is the in/out info:

I can now say that I really understand the movie completely.

This may end up getting released, but if not, you have the info here to fix the time line yoursef. It is a worth while effort. You only need to adjust the frame # for was the first to second keyframe difference. Use a spreadsheet app and it can be done instantly with =sum(??+value) statement.

Here is the thing. If you have not seen this movie, then please go buy it or rent it, as it is a masterpiece and READ NO FUTHER until you do.

If you cannot find the release anywhere or some group wants to do this and release it; the info is here.

The movie is still a masterpiece on the real time timeline.

    Here is what really happened:

All the B/W is the beginning of the time line where he is in hotel talking to Teddy on phone. Teddy convinces him to kill Jimmy, because he tells him the name is Jimmy/James not John.

When he kills Jimmy, he takes a picture. As the picture develops, the world turns to color. Most people do not see this happen. He takes Jimmys clothes and drags him downstairs. In Jimmys last breath, he says Sammy. Leonard then realizes that he killed the wrong person. That is when Teddy pulls up. He checks his pictures and is suspicious of Teddy. Teddy lies to him about some stuff and he busts him at the lies and writes that down that Teddy is a liar on his picture. He also writes down Teddys license # to mess with him later because he knows Teddy set him up to kill Jimmy for the money. He then leaves in Jimmys car wearing his clothes. He find the bar coaster in Jimmys clothes pocket that says meet me later, Natalie. The address of the bar was on the coaster. He drives there, pulls up to the back, Natalie walks up to the car and says, Jimmy. Then realizes its not him and eyeballs the clothes. Jimmy was Natalies boyfriend. He goes in the bar, they all spit in his drink, but when she realizes that he does not remember anything and hears about his wife, she takes the spit drink away and brings him a fresh one. He goes home with her from the bar. She goes out, comes back with busted lip, because Dodd, Jimmys boss, wants the 200 Gs that was in the trunk and cant find Dodd. She is scared and pulls a trick on him to get him to hit her, then uses that to convince him to go kill Dodd. He does believe, but only beats Dodd up and makes him leave town. He comes back with a pic of Dodd beat up and she is happy and goes to bed with him. She sees the tattoo on his leg of the license # and has a friend run the # and it comes back with Teddys info. At this point, he believes Teddy really is John G. and then calls him up and takes him for a ride and kills him.

Natalie never knows that Teddy was the one that got Jimmy killed. She actually really did care about Leonard, but was so scared by Dodd that she used him for defense. Nothing more.

You never really know if he ever did kill the real murderer/John G., because the only info comes from Teddy and he was always lying. It is pretty funny how Teddy sends him back to the hotel he is already checked into to keep tabs on him. The clerk, who informs for Jimmy, sells him another room.

The reason the timeline is skewed is to make you feel like him, lol

As hard as you try, you can't remember.
Can you please tell me the order of this movie scene by scene, because I don't understand those numbers.

Well, I think I do. I could have sworn that it was...sorry, my mistake. That guitar at the end just looked a bit odd shaped, hehe
I promise I'll TRY not to make an idiot of myself in others in the future.

I did make a new video, I marched in a St.Patrick's day parade(boring) so I edited the entire hour of video and got it down to 15 minutes....still a bit boring even with all the techno and boxing. So I had another idea, I remember seeing in a music video or an advert. where they moved the pictures of a video along with the beat of the music.
So I did that along to timewalk99 by honeyworld(I know someone will ask me what the music was)

Okay, first I have a question for you of great importance. Are you sure you can handle it? Can you candle a girl like her, if you need some help I will be first to help you out
About the movie, I have to be honest, I absolutely disliked the pictures that came over the movie. They ruined the vision on the girl :P

To give the thing you want, a good command, I had to play the movie, because the first time I was only looking at the girl, but I managed it... You did a good job. Nice that heartbeat, the 'clabam'/the dropping sound is perhaps a little bit to early, perhaps it's nicer to put that sound at the same moment when the you see her from real close (the movie is now about a second too late). Nice choice of the music, a modern, little rough music style, it looks great. Another thing is the transation you've used, you used the same transition the whole time, which is a good thing.
A thing that you've to be carefull with is the text that's scrolling over. Because so much things are moving you've got be sure the text is vissible for a long time. Because you don't recognise the text as text immediatly. So if there is a lot movement, you have to make sure the text remains longer on the screen. Nice that www.spam.com that comes up shocking like the movie.
I think this movie is a great inspiration for other, at least for me, well done!

Okay first of all it's definately not my favorite kind of music, so I just turned of my speakers. I just watched the movie, and the first thing that came up, why black and white? The gladiator movie is in color, compared to the black and white of the group. Why?
This movie/The kinds is/are ideal to use blurs, and things, fast movements, ghostings, and more of those things. Perhaps you can change that.

Okay, I'll be easy on you
I guess you've faced the same problem as I do from time to time. You have a big movie, and you want to make something nice of it.
Before you start with a movie, you have to think about what you want with the movie. A higlight movie (long -> very short) on that way you just put some (in you situation) crashes behind each other, and skip identical actions. Or make a long movie, that one will be for you personal archive, becaue it's most of the times too long to show others "boring...". And here you made a combination of it.
In a higlight video you create fast movements, music switches, most of the times quite fast music. In the longer movies you use slow music, and from time to time a little fast movements, to stay awake (just kidding about that awake ).
Good luck with your movies and of cource your daughter.

Some of you have editing techniques down.

I won't comment on the video quality or content.

But a lot of you just posted dead links.

Most of you can pat yourself on the back.
Some of you need to be sure to not quit your day job.

(FYI: I can't post any of my work. Copyrighted stuff, all of it. Most is contract work or company work. And this wouldn't constitute portfolio usage. A shame too. I wanna show off too. )
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  24. The final Finland 2002 movie
Okay folks, I finished the movie, it's a small movie of just 4,2MB. I hope you give some comments about this movie, because it looks like I'm the only one who gives comments, but it's for everybody and by everybody. Noobs are welcome too, if you've seen a cinema-movie before, you can give comments too. So please everybody post your comments about others their movies, it helps all of us!

About the movie, from my website:
    Summercamp 2002 in Finland
On my own I went to Finland in the summer of 2002, there I remained at a guestfamily. Each day I did some sportive activities with fifteen others from serveral countries. And my guestfamily told me things about the country, and showed the way they live.
In the second week, we (the foreigners) went to a camp, where we did some sportive activities again. In that week we learned to know each other, as well as yourself.
Two weeks seem to be short, but I've had a fantastic time there, thanks to a pleasant guestfamily, and a great guidance that stood up if it was necessary.
I'm quite happy with the techniques for now, but because of the bare footage, it was very, very difficult to make a complete story, it's now a movie, almost divided into 3/2 parts. There are also some things concerning the quality of the used pictures (grey scan border), I've to change that, but I didn't want to wait any longer.
    Watch it here: http://members.lycos.nl/fieldofvisions/FieldOfVisions/Finland2002.wmv

So please give all of us comments, and don't let me be the only with (and fonoop too of course )

For real I used real video 9 and for windows media I used windows media 9. The rv 9 should work in version 8.0 and up. And wmv should work in version 7.1 and up. I've noticed that alot of people can't seem to see the wmv version for some reason or another. Try downloading real player if you dont have it.

  26. Fonoop, I had version 8 of the windows media player. And I downloaded a newer version (=9.0) and that one works.

About your video, it's quite cool that, shocking, and reversing, of the movie, also the fast camera movements made it interesting, combined with some color changes it's a nice video.
But you've to be aware of what you're doing. By changing the video that much, it will be a lot harder to follow. So I ask you, is this just a test video, or a sort registration of something. If it's a registration, I won't use the effect that much, because using the whole time makes it boring, because you can't really follow it, and you can't see what's actually happening. But in a situation as the bus, it's good! Everybody - or at least almost everybody - know how a bus looks like from the inside, so there you can use the effect. But for the rest...use this effect, but not this much, as you did during the whole video.
Also there are some black scenes, around 1.08 there it's absolutely too dark, those movements in the dark can be interesting, but the lights have to be stronger (like leds in the dark, like those sticks people use in discos and ..).
But I think it's just a test movie, to try some effects. So I just want to say, be careful with the shocking effect, and try to make the movements a little more brighter. But I'm interested in a next movie, where you the things in a 'normal' movie.

    And what about my movie?

  27. Finland 2002 video:
Great transitions in the beginning between the pictures (how'd you make that green glow?) and overall good effect with the music...very dramatic. And then the title...music seem to cut off a little abruptly, maybe let the voice echo a little more so the transition isn't so harsh between scenes. Or just stick in a synth explosion or something after the music stops from fruity loops if you have it. Very serene water/lake scene...and the music seems to match it nicely. I can see what you mean by mixing effects in the next one, still pictures with moving video. Text effects look cool, but I can’t read them, this still adds a little to the overall effect so you don’t get bored. End transition is good, but I think it slows down from the epic mood you set in the beginning. Overall OK!

    About mine:
It was kind of a test of sorts, but by using more than one effect you loose the pace of the music, so I had to keep to the same effect the whole time. But I can see how I could have faded out the music and gone to live action and then back to the effect, that might have made it better, but it was my first attempt at an effect like this…so it was a just test. It might be used in a “normal” video in the future along with various other ones. Thanks for the input.

  28. I know the the music cuts of too abruptly, I'll work on it in a couple of days, thanx for the suggestion of the echo, I think it's te best think in this situation.
About the text, I know it's impossible to read for you, because it was compressed real heavy, and in such way, I lost the contrast between de colors, but I can asure you, it's not the same in the orginal movie But you didn't miss much, because the texts are just the names of the participants. And yeah, about the mood, you're absolutely right, it's not the same, too bad, but this movie already took a little bit too much time, so...I know what I've to think of the next time. Thank you!

Bye the way, have you ever been in Holland before? My next movie is a highlight video of around 5 minutes, about 'my' wet country. Again with some trance music

15 Meg Dixv file. i did it for a friends band and before i have someone say, you cant use those gladiator clips, i know, but i did.

WARNING no pr0n here 16Meg Divx encoded. heavy metal.
both bands wanted their footage in black and white, so i put their footage in black and white. since you turned down the music on the first video then you wouldnt have known that the song was about the opening battle scene in gladiator.( you wouldnt know if you heard the lyrics unless you have read them) i used the gladiator footage as a small visual break. i really wanted to see what i could make with the bands footage.

for the second video, i didnt get all of the footage that i wanted due to inexperience. the idea behind the video was that the band is carjacking a carjacker that attacked a friend. all of the red footage was supposed to be what the carjacker was seeing when he closed his eyes. i stuck the live footage in after the curbing because i wanted to save some of that for the end of the video.
