  1. I like to keep my desktop free of clutter. So when I install programs, it will usually first install a copy of the program on my desktop. I then drag it and pin to my taskbar and delete the program shortcut from my desktop. Even when I delete the shortcut off my desktop and empty the recycle bin, I can still access the program from my taskbar.

However, some programs, if I drag and pin to my taskbar, as soon as I delete the icon from my desktop, I cannot access the program when I click on it from the taskbar. It says that the shortcut refers to has been deleted. Why is that with this program?

The easy way, If you don't want to see the desktop icons, right click anywhere on desktop and in the dialog box uncheck (left click) show desktop icons. To pin programs to the quick launch toolbar right click on the programs in the start menu and left click pin to taskbar then you can delete (from desktop) the icons you've already pinned to the quick launch.

If the program is a portable program like Virtualdub then type the name in the search box and right click on it and pin it from there, that is after search finds and displays it.

  5. If it is executable (.exe) file on desktop and you delete it after pin on taskbar it will logically ask for the path of the original executable file to start the program "pining" is just making shortcut to the taskbar. I had some different experience when pin some files to taskbar and I delete desktop shortcuts The icon is disappearing and shortcut on the taskbar has no icon even tough the original file in the folder on Pc still have it
