  1. Friends,
    Tuneinpro iphone app records radio station streams.
    The radio station I am interested in streams in 128K bit rate mp3 format.
    However, when the app records the stream, I think it encodes the file into its own .tir extension file.
    I tried everything with this file, rename it mp3, wav, ra....every possible audio extension....it did not play.
    I also tried opening it in vlc, realplayer, quicktime, audacity...nothing worked.
    However, Audacity shows me the wavy diagram of the file which means it decoded something?!
    Anyways, how can I figure out how to play this file?

    When I rename the file to MP3 and try to open it in Media Player Classic, this is the message;
    File Source (Async.)::Output
    Media Type 0:

    Do you mean that audacity will display what looks like an audio timeline but won't play it?

    Did you try opening the file with mediainfo?

    Are there any other ipad apps that will do the same thing and output in a more standard format? This one may be using a proprietary codec in which case you'd be out of luck.

    When I open the file with Audacity there's no wav front, for me Audacity doesn't load the .tir file,...

    Probably locked to OP's itunes license.

    blacknwhite -- did you try to export from audacity or just rename the file?

  5. Hoser Rob: No. I did not try opening in meadiainfo. I only have a macbook, will check if there is a version thats runs on it.
    Selur: My bad, The file got corrupted while being uploaded. I will upload another file.
    smrpix: I tried everything. Renaming to every possible extension and tried to open in every known media application. Nothing worked.

    This is the link to the file again...i renamed the extension to mp3, but originally it was tir.

    Notice that this file is almost 30 minutes long music stream, audacity plays it all in 4 seconds with noise and static that you cant understand!

  6. looked at it with an hex editor -> nothing to see no headers on anything other readable, looks like random noise or encrypted data,...

  7. Thanks for your input Selur..
    So there is no way to decrypt it or add an mp3 header maybe?
    Because I know for sure that radio channel I am recording from streams in mp3 128kb format.

  8. don't think that the data is raw mp3 without a header, so adding a mp3 header wouldn't help.
    -> unless the app has some sort of export function I doubt that there's an easy way.
    after a short goolge I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHH6D7GxjFY may be that helps,..

  9. Selur..thanks again.
    Unfortunately, thats the old way tunein used to records streams in. They would split the files into 5 minute intervals so you could extract and join them.
    The new releases only record streams in one file with tir extension. Not playable in any application.

  10. I found this but is not the answer we all expected:
    http://help.tunein.com/customer/portal/articles/890250-how-can-i-export-recordings-fro...-pro-?t=291574
    "How can I export recordings from TuneIn Radio Pro?
    We are unable to make recordings accessible outside of TuneIn Radio Pro."
    I sent them an email asking why but no high hopes.
